DISer's, do you have TWO accts in one credit card? Very odd. I have two homes, MA and CA. We relocated to CA 15 months ago. I travel back and forth to MA. Well I was shopping in my CA Macy's last Spring and realized my Macy's credit card was in MA. The clerk said "no problem", give me your home phone # and we can easily look it up. She did and that was that. She did say that Macy's would mail me a new card to my CA address. Cool, I thought.

So the card arrives. I did notice that it was now a Macy's VISA card.

Now I will say I rarely shop at Macy's. In Nov I asked DH to stop into the CA Macy's and pay off the bill - $40.00 balance.

Sunday I get an email from Macy's saying I owed $30.00. I thought that was odd (as DH had paid this in full) but decided to print off the email and take it by Macy's as we were headed to the Mall for some Xmas shopping.

Macy's clerk looks at the email and then at my actual card in my wallet and says "these are two different numbers"! You need to call them from your home phone and straighten this out.

I called when I got home that evening. Spoke with a James/Rep who stated that when I re-activitated my account back in the Spring, they sent me a Macy's VISA credit card.

He also stated that the balance was from clothing purchased on Dec 8th. I was NOT in Macy's on December 8th. With James on the phone I set up my online acct. I went to "view my statements" and noted $30.00 purchase from a Mall in a completely different state. James then reviewed my account and stated that it appeared that either my card was compromised (as MY signature and the one on the $30.00 receipt did NOT match). He said he would gladly remove the $30.00 charge and that my account was at a zero balance.

I then inquired about the TWO different numbers. James stated that when you have a MACY'S VISA ACCOUNT, when you use the card in MACY's, the purchases goes toward one acct and when you use the card as a VISA it goes to another acct. WHATTTTTTTTTT.........how confusing is that????

I asked James to please close these TWO accts. He said not to worry as HE does not feel my card was compromised BUT that a Macy's clerk MIS-CODED the $30.00 purchase to your account.

"ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO CLOSE THIS ACCOUNT, MRS. XYZ"??

ABSOLUTELY, JAMES. ABSOLUTELY. :headache:

DISer's, please check all your credit card accounts very closely. ::yes::

Something odd is going on with Macy's and their credit cards...last month, DBF went with me to buy a Christmas gift for my mother. As I was paying, the clerk asked if he had an account, then said that he could sign up for his own account under mine. I said we weren't married, and she said, "That's okay, we don't care." She did specifically say he'd have his own account, but it would be billed as if it were mine.

We declined...not that we don't trust each other; he doesn't shop at Macy's and doesn't want his own card.

A long time ago when I was in college..... I found out that Macy's east coast and Macy's west coast were two different entities and that my east coast card was not getting my payments since they were being sent to the west coast address. But I didn't have a west coast account, so they opened one and had been applying my payments to it. So I had a credit on one spot and owed in another. :confused3

Clear as mud! :lmao:

Credit card companies crack me up.

I think the Visa branded store card are normally split out as separate bills. I don't have one of these, but I think this is how it's done.

Glad to hear Macy's straightened out the purchase you didn't make.

With the Macy's Visa, you DO have 2 accounts on one card: the Macy's revolving account and the Visa account. That's totally normal. If you really have fun you can have even more accounts (club, big ticket, etc), but I'm not going to go there. You do have to be careful when paying bills that it's clear which part of the account the payment is going to; they are different entities. They also show up as 2 lines of credit on your credit report. I have also seen cases where accounts were reactivated and there was a new number. I suspect that this is because it was reactivated through a new account application, but I don't know enough about the technical aspects of Macy's credit system to know for sure. Or it's because they upgraded you to the Macy's Visa.

As for Macy's East vs other regions, Macy's has worked on streamlining in the last year. We still have different regions, but SUPPOSEDLY they are no longer quite such separate entities. I have no proof of this other than hearsay from managers however. I should have a better idea in the next week after processing returned Christmas gifts from elsewhere in the country:rolleyes:

I've noticed that many people have two open Macy's accounts showing on their credit report and often they are confused as to why. Only Macy's knows! :)
