Twitter Questions ...

Ok, I admit that I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to all this social networking stuff ... so with that being said, I have a couple of questions about Twitter ...

First, when you tweet something to someone using their twitter name (i.e. @abc123), will they see your tweet even if they are not "following" you? ...

Also, when someone tweets a word or words with a # in front of it, what does that mean? ...

if you use @ before their name they will see it even if they are not following you. If you were to tweet me at @HonnyDipp I will see it even if I'm not following you.

# is called a hashtag. The way I can explain it, it works as a link. If you use it before a word or phrase i.e. #vampirediaries, by clicking it you will see a live feed of everyone discussing the tag. Its a great way to chat about the topic.

Unless you've protected your tweets. If you are sending something to @someone from a protected account they won't see it. Only people following you can see it in that case.
