Twin aisle planes?

Am I the only one, or does anyone else like flying in these big planes?

I really don't know what it is. We've flown on this type of plane a few times on a connection from Atlanta to MCO. It's so big! It makes me feel like I must be going on a big adventure. I know, kinda wierd...

Widebodies are most often seen on international routes these days, but a few 767s are still in domestic service. I like them quite a lot.

We call them the flying living rooms. We loved the L1011 but Delta doesn't use them anymore.

I love the 767s! With the 2-3-2 configuration, there's only one middle seat per row.

I like 767s too. You don't feel the little bumps as much, it's less like flying in a tin can to me...

I also like the 767's - there's more stability it seems. But these aren't really big planes when you consider what Airbus is making (the A380) - now that's a BIG plane!

That's true, but a big enough storm and you can still feel the bumps. One time I flew from Atlanta to Dallas on a Delta L-1011 right as some heavy storms were coming into the area, and the storm front moving in was shaking the plane a LOT. Everything was fine once we reach enough altitude above the storm. I can imagine what it would've felt like in a small prop plane.

I hate 767's or 777's. When they take off I can feel them just want to sit right back down on that runway...LOL . I feel a lot more bumps ( Just me I guess ) on the big planes. Now the 2 - 2's or the 1 - 2 planes are better for me. It is very rare that I have ever felt a bump in the smaller jets. Prop planes are the worst! I was talking to a friend who is a Pilot, and he said the smaller planes can move above and below the air pockets faster and better that a big plane. This is why they seem to be smoother in flight.????? I dont know. I just like my little jets!

Every small plane I have ever been on I have felt the bumps much more than a large plane. It is also on the smaller planes that I have seen people freak, use the barf bags, etc. If I was in rough weather I would much rather be on a large plane and I fly quite often.

Feeling the bumps has more to do with speed than size of the aircraft. Smaller aircraft generally haven't been as speedy as jumbo jets, but that's no longer the case, so some of the smoothest rides can now be found on the smallest jets, the CRJs, for example. Another major factor, of course, is the talent of the pilot -- that would generally account for a good amount of the differences experienced by different passengers on the same type of aircraft.

Yup. I used to fly constantly for business travel. Don't anymore thank goddess. The only time I had to pull out a barf bag was on a commuter prop from PHL to BWI. Beautiful, clear -- windy -- day.

I've heard the pilots explain that they're slowing down to make light chop less noticeable. But that's a far different feeling in a 747, 757, or 767 than as experienced in a Shorts 330.

I flew about a million miles between 1993 and 1998. I used to have my favorites. The Dehavilland Dash 10 was one of the better turbo-props, as solid as most jets. I used to do the Atlanta - Anniston trip every three months, though -- that was an Saab, I think -- <shudder> Yeah, those turbo-props can be spooky.

Another very frequent flyer here... my rule is that I will drive up to 4 hours out of my way to avoid an CRJ or Dash8 or anything similar.... I used to take them all the time with no issues.

It all came from a flight the last week of September, 2001, in a Dash 8 over the Great Lakes. Severe turbulence, and a 60 minute flight became 120 minutes.

The flight attendant shrieked, and then whispered to me that the plane didn't sound right to her.

Last time on a prop plane for me.

I was on a Dash 8 last year that lost an engine. The flight crew from the flight before were in the row in front of me. When there was a big bang, horrible grinding sounds and we had trouble staying up in the air I knew we had problems. The pilot calls back and gets the other pilot on the phone. They were discussing the problem. The flight attendant was scared and just said to put things away because we were going back. The flight attendant from the last flight was telling her what to do because she wasn't doing anything.

When we came in the runway was lined with fire trucks and ambulances. Once we landed and on our way to the gate the pilot finally came on the PA and announced he was trained in one engine flying if that made any difference now that we were on the ground.

Ever since then I go out of my way not to take the small planes. Sometimes I can't help it but I do try not to take them.

The 777 rules, it is my favorite widebody. Sadly its not flown much domestically. Now when the 787 comes out, that will be an awesome plane!!
