TWILIGHT vampire book!!!!!

Okay, reading through this whole thread took me approximately as long as it took me to read the first book. ;)

My 17 yo dd brought Twilight on vacation with her (we are both big readers) and told me she wanted me to read it so I picked up a copy in the airport. I did enjoy the book (although apparently not the extent others have!) :rotfl: and I'm now reading New Moon.

I must admit that I find it very disturbing that Bella collapses any time she feels a boy is leaving her and needs a boy around to be "alive." She's devastated by the loss of Edward--okay, I kind of roll my eyes but I understand the whole "first love" thing. Then Jacob, another boy, is the only thing that can bring her out of her funk. When Jacob isn't there to cheer her up (you know, because he's busy becoming a werewolf and all), she immediately falls into despair again.

My dd is a total opposite of this but I do kind of worry about the message this is sending to young girls.

I'm only partway through book 2 so maybe she grows out of this kind of behavior. I'll continue reading because I do think it's an interesting story but I wondered what you all thought about this aspect of it.

Oh, and I do have to wholeheartedly agree with the recommendation of Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire books. Very funny and Eric the vampire makes me all weak kneed. :thumbsup2

I have to admit I am not fond of some of Bella's characteristics, the whinning and the selfdoubt when it comes to Edward is definately not attractive. For a character that is suppose to be so mature she sure isn't mature when it comes to Edward. I do enjoy the series but when my DD is old enough to read this one we will be having many discussions about Bella's behavior and what is cool and not cool when it comes to boys.

I got this series for my daughter and have fallen in love with them myself. It is so entertaining and impossible to put down. My daughter is actually using the book as part of her independent reading project and she is having so much fun with it. One of the tasks is to draw, create, find, or collect five souvenirs that Bella would put into a scrapbook. What would you include in Bella's scrapbook to reflect events or characters in Twilight?

Yay! I've found my new home! :D

I'm a big fan. I read all the books this past November and I just completely fell in love. I think what attracted me to the books the most was that I'm a lot like Bella (really, it's creepy sometimes O_O). We come from similar backgrounds and i'm insecure and very clumsy like her, but these books are just fantastic.
Kudos Stephenie Meyer! :goodvibes:

My sons just found out that their high school band trip for next year is to the Gator Bowl, in Jacksonville. The first thing that DS12 said was "We can go visit Renee!" and being a typically clueless mom (who's read the series about 10 times), I said "Who's Renee?" :confused3 :rolleyes1

I can not wait for August, I need that book. And I can't wait for December either! Not after that sensory overload of Twilight movie pics we got this week! :D

I'll probably pick it up, even though i'm not really sure what it's about...

Thanks for posting those pictures. The cast looks great and Jasper's hair doesn't look as bad as it did in those first photos that were released. :rotfl:

Those were great pics! It's going to be a long wait for Dec.
