Brier Rose....How old is your daughter? I have one 14 and one 18.

I have also been wondering about the Libba Bray series with A Great and Terrible Beauty which is well-reviewed on Amazon and comes up as one of those *you might also like* selections under the Twilight books.

Has anybody read those books?

My daughter is 16.

Ooh...I've heard good things about A Great and Terrible Beauty also. Forgot to add that one to my list..THANKS!:goodvibes

Well, I think there are a lot like me on here who are...ahem...NOT "young adults" but who still like crossing over into YA fiction. It's really having a boom right now, and is one of my favorite genres to read. I just finished a class for my grad degree completely focusing on YA.
So here are some suggestions of books that impressed me this year!

I'm lovin the whole YA genre! I think one of the great things about it, for me at least, is the fact that my DD and I can enjoy the same books and then spend hours talking about them.

Sometimes we just sit side by side in silence reading..it's just been awesome. I love having this in common with her..something for us to bond over.:goodvibes

It drives my poor DH nuts though.:rotfl: We're constantly saying stuff like..can you believe Bella did this, or Alice is so cool..etc..
He's always like..Bella who?? Alice who??:lmao:

Then when we explain that it's characters from our books he just rolls his eyes..

Thanks, Allie! Good to know! I enjoy beautiful language but there's nothing as much fun as a book you can't put down.

I'm on Amazon and the DIS right now and I also see...

Companions of the Night

Blood and Chocolate

A Certain Slant of Light

which also sound interesting. Do you know those?

Has anyone visited the Twilight Moms site?? They have the best avatars and siggie graphics over there! Two of my favorites.....

I like my men cold, dead, and sparking

and

Superman wears Alice Cullen pajamas

:lmao:

I really liked A Certain Slant of Light...it's very original, great writing, good story. I did NOT like Blood and Chocolate, but I know a lot of people do. I just disliked the protag so much I could barely keep reading...she was completely unsympathetic to me and I didn't care about any of the secondary characters either. If you like werewolf books you might want to give it a try, but I was underwhelmed.
I haven't heard of the third one--will have to check that out!

Exactly! It's like this for me and DD too.

I also like the YA genre because it tends to be a bit milder.....like a PG rating as opposed to an R rating. I don't like gratuitous violence or disturbing images in my fiction. Real life is disturbing enough.

And let's face it.....the main reason the Edward/Bella romance hasn't lost its luster is because there is some sense of anticipation....they're saving something for the wedding night. ;)

Melinda- I'm THERE (same name) but I totally lurk. I know a few of the Utah gals there. Like TwilaMarie (I think I spelled that wrong) who is an uber poster. She and I used to be very close friends when she lived in my neighborhood. Misty is there and another neighbor named VampireMomof4 (something like that).

Have you read the fan fics from amy16? They're good but are too perfect. NO conflict or negativity. She did the wedding, reception, honeymoon, and the "change".

This is also a few bits from Stephenie's Myspace Blog..

1) Breaking Dawn is in the editing phase. It it tentatively set for release Fall 2008. It could be later if we hit a snag in editing. Usually editing takes longer than a few months, but both I and my editors will be putting in lots of overtime to make this happen.

2) Midnight Sun is only half-written. It will not be coming out until a while after it’s finished. Don’t expect it anytime soon. I will let you know when the rough draft is finished, and then you can start asking when it is due out. I don’t foresee much chance to work on it until Breaking Dawn is completely finished.

3) Forever Dawn (the early, poorly written sequel to Twilight) is not the "steamy" version of Breaking Dawn; I don’t know how that rumor got started. Forever Dawn is not adult as in "XXX." It is adult as in "not written exclusively for a young adult audience, much like Pride and Prejudice or Gone With the Wind." There is no steam in Forever Dawn that is not also in Breaking Dawn, so please stop begging me for the "ooh la la" version. It does not exist. I may put some small excerpts of Forever Dawn on my website after Breaking Dawn comes out, but then again, maybe not. It’s not that great. All the best stuff is in Breaking Dawn.

New topic: the Twilight movie

I do not have any casting updates. I haven’t heard anything since the Robert Pattinson announcement. I’m waiting on the same pins and needles you all are. When I get home from vacation, I’ll see if I can get some news.

That is all. Have a nice night everybody!

EDITED TO PUT IN SOME LAST MINUTE ADDITIONS:

4) In regards to the question, "Is Breaking Dawn the last book in the Twilight Saga?" The answer is, "I don’t know." It’s the last one for a while, at least. Of course there will be Midnight Sun, but that’s covering old material. I’m not sure if I will go forward with the Twilight characters–I’m a little burned out right now. Ask me again in two years.

5) "When are you going to put the first chapter of Breaking Dawn on your website?" I have no idea when or if I will get permission to post that. It may be in the special edition of Eclipse that will come out in June or July. It may never appear until BD is on the shelves.

Oh, I thought of another one!

6) "What does the cover of BD look like?" I don’t know (are you sensing a theme here?). We have not decided on a cover yet–in fact, we are in a very early stage of the process. If we get a cover developed in time, it will probably be released with the Eclipse special edition the way the Eclipse cover was put out with the New Moon special edition. I’ve had a few people ask if images they’ve seen are the BD cover, and I can tell you absolutely that they are NOT.

It’s been no secret that one of the shooting locations for the Twilight movie would be the state of Oregon. The Oregon Film and Video Office has put out an "all crafts call". In other words they are looking for location personnel to staff out the shoot. This means they are looking for camera people, and possibly extras among other things.

"Twilight Productions, LLC
Call for Resumes for the Feature Film
"Twilight"
All Crafts
Prep begins 1/2/08
Shooting tentatively scheduled for 2/25 for approx. 8 weeks
Please email resumes to:
twilightresumes@gmail.com "

Gosh I hope everything goes smooth though-out the editing process for Breaking Dawn!! The wait is killing me!:goodvibes

Thanks for posting the updates:thumbsup2

I was just curious if any of the Twilight fans here were ever fans of Buffy & Angel?

I loved watching both series by Joss Whedon - very good stuff but the love story between Buffy and Angel was my favorite:lovestruc Sometimes I have to get out my DVD's to watch to get my Buffy and Angel fix:)

Thought I'd pass along some of my favorite Twilight Fan Fics!!:goodvibes

For the pen name just type in Cocoa and it will bring up all of her stories. She is most awesome!

http://www.ramblingsandthoughts.com/twilight/search.php

COOL! That site kept me busy for a couple hours!

I LOVED the art section too. The comments people made on the art was brutal sometimes! And I hate how a lot of the artists puts a disclaimer in the description. Like an apology or excuse. Makes me pissy.

Thanks also for the excerpt from Stephenie Meyer. I love her! But she doesn't realize how impatient I am...:sad2:

I loved Buffy and Angel.

I just read Twilight for the first time last night/this morning--it was awesome! I need to get the other two books NOW!

I've never seen it. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, right? Nope. I don't know what Angel is. Now I'm supremely curious.

I'm currently reading the new Janet Evanovich book called, "Plum Lucky" it's and in-between-the-numbered books in her Stephanie Plum series. These are my comedy break from the vampires, I guess. Great books also!

NEEEB! I've never seen you out and about (oat in a boot) around the DIS> What a lovely surprise.

Now, I've read Edward's version of Twilight's chapter one and it is smoking good!

I'm also glad to see so many other vampire books out there too. I had no idea! I loved Interview and Queen so maybe I should check out the others.

I really like Twilightmoms.com (a discussion forum like this, but small) there's a fanfic section and amy16's is really good. (I haven't really read any others).

I totally need a good book series to tide me over. I heard there's a new un-numbered one to the Janet Evonovich mysteries called "Plum Lovin'" or something like that. Janet is a HOOT! Love Ranger...

OH!!!! Dear, I forgot to tell you Twilight fans! Me and my friend Spongemommie05 (Misty) made our version of the Bella bracelet!!!!!! It has a howling wolf and a swararski (sp???) crystal heart! The one on the Stephenie Meyer website is really expensive so Misty found all the stuff to make them off e-bay for CHEAP. The bracelet needs a red ribbon in our opinion. I'll have to post a photo of it - when I get my computer back. It's not easy with my son's laptop.

A lot of the fanfics are decent try twilightarchives.com or ramblingsandthoughts.com SillyBella is great.

Are these 'Chick" books?????:rolleyes1

No! My friend Jamie and a bunch of us are in a state of diagreement. He's a Jacob lover because he thinks Edward sets immpossible standards for guys to meet.

I do like to tide myself over reading fan fics. My only problem with them is they're a lot of the times too perfect. No conflict. Too ideal. :confused3 Does that make sense?

Thanks for the links, Lizzy!

I bought the book a few days ago!!!! Wow bigger than I expected.:thumbsup2
Haven't jumped in yet as I am finishing up "Eat, Pray, Love".

Yeah. You have to be carefull with some of the AU ones, they tend to get a bit extreme. And a lot of them are pure fluff or, a conflict1 then 100 words later it's resolved.

Just got Twilight for my classroom. My girls are delighted. My boys were even intrigued when I mentioned vampires!
