If using twilight check-in, can we hold back a bag to check-in next morning? We'll need to pack the previous days clothes, toiletries etc.

I could be wrong Gill but I don't think they let you do tjhat anymore. What I was told was that some people get a large jiffy bag and mail the things they've used back home to themselves. Personally, we just take a change of clothes and use the toiletries from the hotel in the morning.

No, you can't do that. Don't you normally fly UC (or PE)? I think the big advantage of Twilight Check-in is to avoid the, sometimes (often), huges lines for Economy check-in. Even if you are travelling Economy, as long as you're Silver FC members, you can check-in at the PE desk.

We did Twi-light check in this month at Gatwick & you couldn't then. We also did valet parking which meant we couldn't return a bag to the car the morning we flew. Luckily just DH & I which made it easier.

We wore the same clothes to travel in & I l sept in a large t-shirt which i Packed in my hand luggage. we wore old knicker s & socks & we threw these away & wore clean the next day. I took the minimum of toiletries. OLd toothpaste that I again threw away.

All toiltetries you take through in hand luggage have to be in containers 100ml or less. DH had a can of Lynx spray & that was 150 ml & we had that taken off us. ONce through security we walked straight into Boots & bought a new one!

They were very strict on 1piece of hand luggage each & stressed that a ladies handbag was counted as 1 piece. Also you couldn't put your handbag into a larger backpack or case, that wasn't allowed.

We took our hand luggage with us to twilight check in but they didn't look at it or weigh it.

if you drive to the airport couldn't you just pack 1 overnight bag and dump it in the car the next morning? or I'd be tempted to do what Disney Owl does and take disposable stuff to lighten your hand luggage tyhe next day

Why not e mail VA and ask them. I had no problems checking in my overnight bag.

Yes we are flying PE, so would you just check in on the day? I can overcome the clothing I suppose, and even some of the toiletries, but couldn't possibly throw away my skin care products and how about my electric toothbrush? We don't drive, always take a hire car so we don't have to drive home - this time we end up at Southampton.

I suppose if we check-in online .....if it's working....and just turn up just before they open, hopefully there shouldn't be too much of a queue...we need time in the Duty Free for our sailaway champagne and our flight leaves at 10am. I was hoping to get rid of all our cases but it sounds as though we'll have to keep them with us at the Sofitel.

Thanks for all your comments.

we are staying overnight at gatwick hilton and using twilight checkin - however there are 5 of us (2 adults and 3 kid, 6, 4, 2 1/2) so will need a few bits - and cos of the hand luggage restriction am not sure what to do...as they will need a change of clothes as I can guarantee they will get food down them.....we are leaving the car at the hotel - however one year it was off site parking and we could not get access to the car the next day, and then a couple of years ago we could get access - so not sure what to do!!!! might call the hotel and see if they know which parking we will be using as it will help if I can leave a bag in the car the morning of the flight with our change of clothes....

That's what we did last time, Gill. It hardly seems worth checking in the night before if you're then going to have to queue again to check in an overnight bag (even if it's possible - I didn't think it was, but it sounds as though some have done that). When we got to check-in in October, the queues for Economy were horrendous - completely blocking the hall which houses the Virgin desks. We were hugely relieved that we had priority check-in. There was a queue for PE (something we've never really experienced before), but even taking that into account and the line for security, we were probably done in around 30 minutes. I dread to think how long some people must have been waiting.

We always use twlight check in, last trip a couple of weeks ago. Once your checked in thats it. We stay at the Hilton, use old underwear so it can be thrown next day, and save the toothbrushes from previous flights to also dispose of. Hilton provide soap, shampoo etc.:dance3:

We always use the Twilight check in. I just save up my old nighties and underwear and maybe even a top that I know i won't wear again and just throw them out the next morning. I can usually wear the same trousers as the night before.

I save our old toothbrushes, toothpaste and the dregs of my make up and put them aside for our trip and then just throw them out the morning of our flight. I think the restrictions have been lifted on the small items of make up so hope to take them with this year. So if my deodorant is just about to give way I put it by for our airport stay and make sure I pack all the good stuff in the checked in cases.

Let us know how you get on.

Susan

This is exactly what I have been doing for the last few months, Susan. :rotfl: The only toiletry/makeup I won't be throwing away is a lipstick which I see I can take through. :thumbsup2

I live about an hour from gatwick, I've never used twilight checkin before. is it worth me driving there the evening before to cut down on the hassle the next day? does everybody travelling have to be present or can I go alone with all our cases and five passports.
I have been told our seats are assigned on checkin as we are travelling with an infant so it benefits us to check in as early as possible.

We also live close by but this year have chosen to stay the night before using twilight check in. We figure it reduces stress and worry about missing the flight, gets rid of the luggage and avopefully will avoid a long time in queues and of course we start our holiday a day early!!!

Really, I had a thought that I could drive to gatwick when the kids go to bed, check us all in and come home. next day we could pile into cab sans cases and yay life is easy!!!
do you know if I can check in my whole group?
Jo.

I think all adults in the party have to be present for twilight check-in, but not the children. Although you had better check the guidelines for your particular airline.

Sara. :)

I don't think so.I seem to remember that the person needs to be there to be identified against their passport photo?

Following the various downtown disney check in threads it would also suggest that all will need to be present for any form of check in.

Even better if you live close by you wouldnt have to pay our for a hotel,I would pop along and use the service ,nice to have dinner there maybe, they have opened up couple more resturants now at south terminal. We also use twlight and stay at hilton as always fly virgin, its part or our hols to wander around have a nice meal, have a nice breakfast in the morning and not worry about being stuck on the A2/M25 !!! As we live in Gravesend you can never take the chance with the roads now:surfweb:
