Hi everyone. My DMom, DSis, & I are doing a "girls only" trip to WDW in August. I'm going to suprise mom & change our ASMovies reservations to cabins at the Fort. (She's going to be REALLY excited, b/c she's always wanted to stayed there!)
3 Questions:
*Mom has permanent nerve damage in her legs b/c of chemotheraphy & it's hard for her to walk long distances. If possible, how can I request a cabin close to the bus route? She's not normally in a wheelchair, but sometimes needs one after a few days in WDW. (I don't think a golf cart will be in the budget.)
*Does the bedroom have a tv?
*What do I need to bring? I think we may only cook breakfast in the kitchen, so just food, snacks, bottled water, wine, & cooking spray?
Thank you so much for your help!

There is a TV in the bedrooms...like a 19" or so.

The kitchens are pretty well stocked as far as cooking utensils and diningware. There are no condiments...so bring salt, pepper, etc. with your food and bottled water...cooking spray is pretty smart to bring...good thinking there!

If when you make the reservation, you explain that she has medical requirements...they will usually bend over backwards to meet your needs. Disney is very good about catering to the elderly and their medical requirements.
It sounds like ya'll are gonna have a great time.

We bring some grilling utensils, portable DVD player to hook up to the bedroom TV, Big coffee cups. The cabins supplies just about everything you will need. I just like to have a bigger coffee cup. If you are planning to eat at the cabins, I recommend going to a grocery store off Disney property or getting an order delivered with some off of the online grocery stores. There are some groceries available at the fort but you will pay thru the nose for them. It is ok for a few things but not a weeks worth.

I don't think you will have a problem with your request. Just restate it when you check in....just in case.

I have nerve damage also...but in my face from sinus surgery. I find that the cabins are great to relax from all of the excitement of the parks. As a matter of fact, I prefer to go there then anywhere else. Because I know I will be able to relax and have fun. I used to take Lyrica but it just got off of it.....made me too tired. I was missing out on life.

have fun

Ditto to the above. While we haven't gone yet (6 days) we did place an order with Garden Grocer and I ordered some special customized trip mugs for each member of our family that will be waiting for us at check in. I like a bigger mug as well and with the cost of checking bags it was far easier to just do it this way and GG's prices were comparable based on what we wanted. Some things just can't be packed anyway (i.e. milk). We are doing DDP but needed breakfast items, dinner for the first night as we get in super late and everything will be closed and then stuff to pack lunches for our flight home.

Disney shopping has the neatest custom mug program now, I'm so excited to see them!

It can't hurt to ask. Call or email them. Disney seems to have a unique sensitivity to those with special needs. Explain to them your situation and your concerns. They may surprise you.

Thanks for your responses everyone! I made our ressies today & I'm really excited. I mentioned mom's condition & they were very accomidating. (She's only 52, but chemo really took a toll on her body a few years ago.) Thanks again for your help!

She just finished her last dose of tamoxyphen recently, but she still takes a few other daily pills. She's usually okay at first, but after a few days it's very painful for her to do Disney-style walking. (She's normally pretty tired too, but Disney really brings out her energy. Except for The Land ride in Epcot- it puts all of us to sleep, lol.) Last time, she had black and blue spots up & down her legs from internal bruising. I thought about renting a mobility scooter, but she has way too much pride.

As for camping, we love being outside too! I think she's really going to enjoy being able to sit on the porch at night. We used to go cabin camping (in Bayou Segnette and in Robert, LA) a lot when I was younger, so it will bring back some great memories too. Thanks again!!!

Just remind them at check in also we had a handicap cabin and it was very spacious alittle bigger than the average, also bring coffee filters the flat bottom kind if you drink coffee as they do not supply that, and the kitchens are soo spacious its just like home so bring what you would normally want at home, we love the cabins and can't wait until Sept when we return home haha enjoy

It is a little shy on cooking items. No cookie sheet for example so we made our biscuits in the 2 different backing dishes. One pan and one pot which can make cooking multiple items a little more tricky. Doable but just a little more tricky.

I really echo the own mug idea (or buy one right away when you get there!). I had these made and waiting for us with the new Disney shopping custom mug program (SO cool!). Originally intended as a special trip treat, I also know that Dh and I like a bigger mug than is typically ever in any hotel room. The forts mugs seemed even smaller than usually and the mason jar glasses a little awkward for the kiddos so these mugs were used to death on our trip (and still are now that we are home).

Have fun!!!!!! You will love the cabins.

I love the idea of the mugs! I'm making one with Musket Mickey (minus the musket:sad1: - I'd want one w/ his musket but they only have an image w/o it) & adding our trip dates. Thanks for showing yours!

And, thanks again to everyone for your helpful posts! We can't wait! (It's so funny- I've been to Disney almost 20 times & I still get really excited everytime! DH is wondering when it will get old, but it never does...and I don't think it ever will. I know many of you understand.)

I hear you, Dh was shaking his head at me saying "you already want to go back?" And I reminded him I did the same thing right after we got back last time! The good news is he already agrees there WILL be a next time. Not an if, a when! I'm pushing for a trip with his mom and her husband for F&W in 2010 as that will get us there faster lol. Plus they would LOVE it!
