My DF and I went to try on tuxes to get his size and it seems like he is between sizes. When he tries on a 42 XL it seems just a bit too tight but a 44 XL seems way too big in the shoulders and seems like a tent on him. The guy at the tux place said that tuxes are generally worn open. The 42XL is fine open and looks great.

My question is, have most of the guys worn their tuxes open - even in pictues? I have been looking at different pictures and I seem to see both. Is there a general rule? Did your guy were his tux open or closed? :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

He is wearing a black two button tux with the white Mickey Mouse vest and bowtie.

Thanks,
Linda

Sounds to me like he's feeding you a line of crap.

Men's etiquette/fashion/whatever dictates that jackets are buttoned when standing and unbuttoned when seated. We also never button the bottom button of a jacket. Some guys will leave it unbuttoned all the time, but it's not supposed to be that way.

I'd say make him find your future husband a 43XL. 43R and 43L are common jacket sizes...never really dealt with the XL sizings personally so its possible that they don't make a 43 in it, but I'd think it unlikely.

Definately both! Open mostly for the casual pictures, closed during the ceremony--hth

funny enough my husbaand and groosmen wore it open! i could not believe it all that planning and then after i got pics back i relized their jackets were open the whole time!!! ahhh but you know what they still looked great. i cant believe no one noticed. honestly if he is comfortable the pics will turn out great and him being happy is all that matters

Here's where I'm a pop culture nerd. I remember hearing the following tip on Queer Eye, I think... on a 3 button jacket, from the top you button up the buttons "Sometimes, Always, Never". As in, sometimes button the top - up to you. Always button the middle button. Never button the lower.

So, that's in my head now.

I don't think that there is a rule on it. I would go with what looks good and him and is comfortable for him.
