Okay, so checking the weather for our trip in 10 days, right now it says it’s going to rain. We’re going to be there December 1 – 4, and according to accuweather there will be showers on Tuesday and A shower (so it will only rain once?) on Wednesday and Thursday. I know the closer it gets to that time the more accurate the forecast will be, but either way we’re planning for rain.

So we have never ever been to DLR while it’s raining. What tips can you give me? We’ll probably buy ponchos there since I think they’re cuter (lol) and they look thicker and I hear they last long. I have a 99 cent one from Wal-Mart, but that one doesn’t feel like it will keep me dry.

Should we bring a small umbrella? What rides are closed when it rains?

Any tips would be the greatest. Thanks, guys!! :upsidedow

I checked accuweather.com and the 15 day forecast does not look good for our trip. We will be there 11/29 - 12/5. It looks like it is either going to rain or be cool and cloudy during our whole trip. :sad1: Makes me sad because we take one vacation a year and were looking forward to a break from all the rain up here. But I know SoCal could use a little rain.

Guess we will be buying ponchos and making the most of it! ;)

Yeah, we could use rain! The last time it rained it was only a little bit, and it looks like this is going to be for awhile, which is good!

But I'm sad it's during your DLR trip too!! I'm sure the crowds will be low! Looking at the forecast it doesn't say it's going to pour, that's a good thing!

Just know that our weather here can change alot from the predictions. Especially on 10-15 days out. But, it wouldn't hurt to be prepared, just in case. And yes, if it's a very rainy day the Mickey ponchos are much better than the $1 kind. I use those mostly for water rides.

As far as closures go, during rain Alice closes. Sometimes the outside coaster rides. But not always. DD and I rode Screamin' in May during showers. It was fun, but a little painful. Basically you'll want to avoid those rides with outside parts, especially if it's pouring. And that includes IASW since you are outside for a few minutes before entering the building.

Yes, bring an umbrella. :umbrella: And if you are wearing socks, bring extras. I wear my Crocs even in the rain, so it doesn't matter if my feet get wet. But, if it's a cold rain (unlike those at WDW in Sept.) then shoes and socks are probably best.

And yes, we could use the rain, just not too much at once. (especially in those fire ravaged areas.)

I just checked our 7 day forecast on our local station and the next 7 days look good. Cooler and cloudy though on Tuesday and Wed. Besides the major weather links, check out the local forecast at abc7.com. Weather.com does say we have a 60% chance of rain on Friday and Saturday (11/28, 11/29) but keep checking, it may change before you go. I never rely on those 10 forecast. To much can change.

It if does rain, DLR can still be fun. When I was younger my DSis and I used to plan on going during the rain. Less crowds. :goodvibes

Last year during our early Dec trip, it rained, I think once. It was cold and nasty, though it didn't stop me from playing (my guys went back to the hotel though, they didn't find enjoyment in the rain).

Grizzly was fun in the rain, though very few people agreed with me. :) Pretty much me and 5 11 year old boys (newly victorious in a chess tournament) were the only ones on the rafts. I figured...it's already wet outside, what's a little more? :)

While wandering DCA I was told that even though Screamin' stays open, it's NOT a good idea to ride it in the rain. Something about the rain drops feeling like needles on your face during take-off...

Teacups closes, I know that for sure.

During our trip, which starts the day after yours ends, we'll bring gloves, probably some hats, definitely our ponchos (I think I'm replacing mine this trip, b/c I've been using the same one since last December) (and yes you're right they are nice and thick, compared to dollar store ponchos), things like that. Just be prepared!

Oh, and we bought an umbrella there back in Sept '05 when it was raining all over southern CA (my brother was so annoyed at me, for bringing the Tacoma weather down to San Diego), and DS and I used that (I was "wearing" him in a traditional chinese baby carrier and didn't think he'd appreciate sharing a plastic poncho with me, so he was under my coat and I carried the umbrella, and it was fine. But for some reason I mind having my clothes wet a little bit more now, so I like the poncho for clothes-covering purposes, rather than the umbrella. You might feel differently! Just know you'll be dealing with a wet umbrella as you get onto rides.

Thank you, dizneydaz and bumber! :goodvibes

I'm going to be checking the forecast everyday until we leave. Even if it doesn't rain I'm sure it will be cold. I'm kind of happy for the cold. Everytime we've gone this year it's been hot. Terribly hot. And when we went in October it was just cold at night. I think the cold weather + the Holiday decorations will be awesome. :lovestruc

That's true about the umbrella, Molly. I don't really want to carry it around all wet. I'm sure if we have ponchos and just wear the hood would keep my hair/face from getting wet. I did see a super cute Wall-E one on disneyshopping.com. Hmmmm....

I saw some rain boots at Target. I hate it when my shoes/socks are wet. I don't really want to wear my Uggs in the rain either.

GRR sounds fun in the rain!!! It's true, you're already wet! :woohoo:

We went last Jan during the horrible terrible downpour with loads of wind. The parks were deserted....we walked right onto NEMO!!!!!! lol Seriously, we were soaked. We took umbrellas and I bought a poncho (which I will take again in Jan) but it was wet. We had extra shoes and socks but we left them in the room so we had to go back to change. The only rides that closed were Alice and the Teacups, apparently those 2 have issues in the rain so for safety they are shut down. Buy yourself a nice poncho, carry and umbrella and enjoy!

If it does rain, I hope it's only a light sprinkle. I enjoy rain but not walking in it. I want it to be dry, cold and full of Christmas lights:goodvibes

Thanks, Kerri!! Do they sell the ponchos on Main Street? I've seen them in the Splash Mountain gift shop, but I've never seen them anywhere else (I never really looked either).

Cristabel, yeah, I would be okay with a sprinkle. Even a slight rain. But not a full on rain storm!!

I'm excited, now!!!

You'll be fine if it does! Just take is slow and if your prepared to get wet it's not so bad. I am really hoping for no rain too as our parade got rained on last year.

Last year when we went before Thanksgiving it rained...HARD! We definitely made the best of it but I do have one piece of advise for you walk slowly and carefully! We were walking (but walking too quickly) to get on Splash Mountain and it had been raining all morning so far so there were quite a few puddles and such. Well we get to right where you pass under the bridge to enter the ride line and my foot slipped out from under me and BAM! Fell HARD landing ON my foot with my cold wet butt! It hurt so bad I couldn't walk...I was SO embarrased! So I was cold, soaking (I mean SOAKING) wet & couldn't walk. They had security there lickity split and we had a personal escort to our car with me riding in a wheel chair. Only positive thing was after we went back to the hotel and dried off & rested we went back to DL w/my free wheel chair pass and got on LOTS of rides quickly! The kids have asked that I fall on the first day this time so we can just go straight to the front. Ya...sure thing! :thumbsup2 Sorry kiddos...we're standing in line this time as I am NOT doing that again if I can help it.

If you carry a plastic bag with you for your umbrella (small fold-up/pop-up kind), then you don't have to worry about it dripping everywhere. That's what I like to do when it rains & I have to put a wet umbrella in my car.

See you in the rain!:)

ETA: love your thread title by the way!

not to sound mean, but your kids' idea has me :lmao:

Courtney, I got mine in Toontown at the Gag Factory shop but I saw them all over the place. I think it was $6.95......maybe $7.95. I tried a kids' size (because it had Mickey on it) but it was a bit too small so I had to get the adults style.

Last year we went the same days you are going and it stormed. I am not one to overpack so I wore a baseball hat (cute pink one of course ;) a thick jacket with a hood and shoes that wouldn't soak. We all had jeans on but our jackets went past our rears so not much got wet. Our kids were in the strollers with rain covers and dressed similar to me. They were only in the rain when we got to our location and had to depart the strollers. it sure made DL much more fun!!! And you would be surprised how many people leave the park with this weather. The lines were amazing!

KimD – So no jumping in puddles!! Okay! I’ll remember that!! Lol. I don’t want wet jeans, so I’ll be careful. :rotfl: about what your kids said!! Too funny! My Dad and I always laugh at my Mom. She’s always the one to fall, or run into something, or almost fall on every vacation!!! Lol

blue donkey – That’s a good idea! A small umbrella will fit in my bag I carry in the parks, just in case. So I’ll bring a plastic bag so I’m not dripping everywhere! Thanks!! Oh yeah! Thanks about the thread title! I miss the old Pooh with Christopher Robin! Every time it rains it always makes me think when he would say that! :)

Kerri – Thank you! WAIT! I thought even the adult ones had Mickey! Aww boo! I want Mickey!!! :sad1:

tracer – I’m glad to hear you had a good time! Even if it was storming!!! I’m getting more excited! A new adventure!!!! :yay:

ACH not what I needed to hear either , we only have two days in the parks Dec 3-4. I need to talk to the weather fairies about this !

when we went to DL it rained out last day there. it was actually kind of cool. my only regret was that the teacups were closed and i never got to ride them! but other than that, the crowds were definitely low, and there are plenty of rides where you don't have to wait out in the rain. pirates was nice.

No, mine says something like Disney Parks on it but no Mickey. I was sad. :(
