Hoping someone has experienced this in the past and can share what happened for them -
Several months back we booked a 8:15 am breakfast at Tusker House with the ROL package. The reservation was for the "1st showing" of ROL, even though at that time there was only one showing scheduled for that day at 8:45 pm.
A few weeks back, Disney updated the hours at AK for the day of our visit to 8:00 am - 10:30 pm, and also added a second showing of ROL at 10 pm.
We were going to keep our TH reservation as is, no problem, but then decided if I could find a later time using reservation finder, I'd change it so we can take advantage of touring instead of eating when the park opens at 8. Over the weekend I managed to grab a 9:40 am breakfast time with the ROL package and changed our reservation to the new time. Yay!
After cancelling our old reservation and booking the new time, I looked more closely at our reservation details and this new reservation says the package is for ROL "2nd showing". Ugh. My kids will definitely not be able to stay up that late. We had originally planned to leave AK right after the first show is finished. When I made the new reservation on the website, there was not any option for me to select 1st or 2nd showing during the booking process, and the prompts didn't tell me until my confirmation page/email that this new reservation time was assigned to the 2nd showing.
I called Disney reservations this morning to see if we could update the reservation to the 1st showing, especially since I had just cancelled a reservation with the 1st showing, and they said they can't do that. And apparently there is no way on the website to know if a new available time pops up if it is assigned to the 1st or 2nd showing.
The CM on the phone advised me to ask at the restaurant for the 1st showing instead of the 2nd.
So that brings me to my question - has anyone successfully changed their assigned ROL package show AT their reservation? I guess it doesn't hurt to ask when we are there, but since there is NO way we would be able to make it to the 2nd show, I'd rather cancel the package ahead of time if there is no chance of changing it on the day-of so that maybe someone else who is looking for a later ROL package could use it. I assume there are a limited number of seats available in the dining package section for each showing.
