We are going to Vero for the very first time in July 2007 and would like to take the 'trip' to watch the turtles hatch. Does anyone know how far in advance you can book this with the resort?

You can't actually "book it" with the resort. What happens is I think it is the night before you go to the lobby with everyone else who wants to do the Turtle Walk and put your room key in a large bowl. Then room keys are drawn out at random until the amount of people allowed for the tour has been reached.

When you check in you will be given an activity sheet for the time you are at the resort. On this sheet it will tell you when the turtle walk is and when the drawing or lotto (I forget exactly what it is called) will be.

It really is a luck of the draw type of thing. We tried our last trip and didn't get in.

Best of luck to you though. :)

Do you know how many times per week they do this? We are only there for four nights and would love to do it!!! Does anyone have a list of all the activities on offer at Vero as it is our first trip!

I am thinking it was one or two (but I really am not sure).

Don't forget that you can go out on your own even if you don't get picked or it is a night when they are not going out. We were there last August and went out each night on our own. Never got to see the hatchlings, but here are a couple of pics showing a full nest and an empty nest. Notice the claw and tail markings in the sand headed for the ocean.

We were walking along the beach in early August and came across a turtle laying a nest of eggs. There was a man there with night vision goggles that let us use them to watch her for a bit. It was the highlight of our trip.

Lucky ducks! (smilies aren't working for me today, but I AM winking).
