Turnaround time for a new passport

The passport acceptance office will keep the birth certificates. They only look over what you're submitting to see that everything is there. They don't make the determination there.

In our experience, the post office included them in the package they forwarded to the passport processing center, who returned them with our passports. If I were in your place I would probably get another set of birth certificates, as much as a "peace of mind" thing as anything.

Yes, the post office takes the birth certificates and forwards them with the passport application for processing. But they mail the birth certificates back separately from the passport. We got my DD's passport in the mail first and then the birth certificate a couple days later.

Darn! But good to know, thanks!

You could check into getting duplicates of the birth certificates. I have no idea how much that costs in different places around the country, but I think I only had to pay about $10 in processing fees to get a copy of my DD's.

Just got one for my daughter. Took about 3 weeks to get here. Meanwhile, there was a hitch somewhere with my renewal, so I'm still waiting for that even though we filed both applications at the same time.

I just renewed mine and it took exactly 6 weeks, while my husband's renewal and my kids (new) passports took only about 4 weeks. I don't think it will take any longer than 6 weeks at the VERY maximum. :snail:

5 weeks for our children's passports. We are traveling in February and wanted to give more than enough time.

It's $28 in our county in California! But it can be processed while you wait in person and it's not too far from DH's work. So that's my back-up plan if it's a week before our cruise and the passports haven't come (knock on wood).

I meant to get the kids' passports much earlier, but have been waffling since it's such a hassle. Not many post offices have Saturday appointments and the wait for one would be too long. So that means I need to take DS out of school for a couple hours.

Mine took the full 6 weeks. Honestly, the expedite fee is worth it because what would you do if you didn't get it in time?

Well that's why we did expedite it. I just have a hard time believing it would have taken that long, because it never has for us.

DD's passport took 10 days, they told us it would be 4-6 weeks September 1st

Augh.

Good news is that we magically timed the passport in such a way that DS's next one will be when he's 16. Woo!
