Turn Down Service at Poly

:blush::blush::blush:

Is this like having "Dis Groupies"? :woohoo: Actually, I was only stating what many people feel. I also mean no offence to anyone as I also appreciate that there are many posters who are perfectly happy with the level of service they receive. This topic is relative to each individual's personal preference so there will be a wide range of opinions. Isn't free speech wonderful! :thumbsup2

Again TC well put :worship::worship::worship:

You *should* tip the evening mousekeepers for turn down~

How is that for an answer :lmao:

I do tip if I am back in my room between the time of the morning and evening mousekeepers.

If by chance we don't make it back to the room~ honestly ~ I dont make a special trip just to tip the evening mousekeepers. I also feel that since we didn't touch the room since the morning housekeeper~ no need for trash removal~ straitening up or leaving new towels that it all evens out somehow LOL

If we do go back to our room I leave $3 sometimes $5 ~ it depends on the cash I have on hand lol

Thank you for the very nice answer! I was kind of thinking along that same line and you confirmed it. You see people getting flamed on here for even bringing up tipping let alone this thread already has some definite difference of opinions going on.

Again, I have never been upgraded even though I've stayed at every level of resort at Disney. But I like the idea that there's even a chance that we might. It's like buying a lottery ticket, I don't think I'll win but at least I do have a chance. But I see what you mean about the busier crowds being an inconvenience.

I have read on here some guest who leave the parks, run back to their room to leave a tip for turn down service housekeeping~~ and return to the parks... errrr I am a good tipper but I am not that good :rotfl:

Usually I leave $1-2 per person staying in the room each morning. If we return in the afternoon (before Turn down) I will leave $1 per person staying in the room.
~ sometimes I tip more sometimes less.
Now if we return in the afternoon ~ all take showers and trash the place then yeah I will leave a 10-12 tip :rotfl2:

Yikes! I usually leave a few bucks each morning but certainly wouldn't leave the parks to run back to the room!:confused3
We are letting our DS (who is 15) bring along a friend to hang out with this trip, between those two teenagers and a 2 yr old......I think I might have to increase my monetary offering to mousekeeping!:rotfl2:

But from my understanding they do this. Turn down services is by request in all deluxe resorts. You only have to call and request it. They are not charging you more for it. This is what is advertised to us when we book the room (well except for the GF which turn down is standard no matter what room you book)
So what happens when you read this as a selling point for the resort and once you are in there, you request the service and still don't get it? If Disney is going to use turn down service request as a selling point then they need to deliver when it is requested.

Disney does NOT sell the resort by stating "You can request turn down and if we feel like it or are not too busy we might fill your request" :rotfl2: oh yeah that would go over big :rotfl2:

I love this last line!:rotfl:

We've never been turned down when requesting nightly turn down at the YC.

It would be nice if it was just done routinely, though.:)

Disney Deluxe.

All the pricing half (or less) of the service

At a TRUE Deluxe if you don't want turn down they have these nice little signs that say "Do Not Disturb" you can place on the door.

At Disney they charge you more but provide only the service they "have staff for" For those prices :rotfl: They should have staff!!!!!!:rotfl:

I don't tip for turn down.... (Heck I rarely tip for housekeeping and practically never at Disney. My last deluxe. I wrote "DUST ME" on the furniture. They didn't .. you tip for that!:rotfl2:)

I absolutely hear what you're saying.........but:
I don't think it's mousekeepings fault that Disney overbooks and understaffs. I know I wouldn't want their job of cleaning up after people that feel like they are entitled to trash a room because they feel overcharged (I know not everyone does that but you have to admit a fair amount do) for their vacation. They deal with tourists all the time day in and day out. Sure it's by choice and maybe there are other jobs out there to be had.......but if leaving a couple of bucks adds a smile to someone's face after they had to pick up after my group then all the better. If I can afford a Disney vacation at any level of stay....then I can afford a few bucks here and there.
Do I think everyone HAS to tip? Nope, that's up to each individual and what they are comfortable with doing.

I don't blame Disney... They don't make us over pay for 3 star resorts. We do that all on our own. But for what they want I should not have to worry about "understaffing" :rotfl2: I actually admire Disney. Their marketing has us convinced that 'pretty' is quality.

However, I am a solo traveler and don't think that I leave a mess for the housekeeper to "pick up" after.

I can afford a Disney hotel, but....

Absolutely was not implying that everyone should tip. And I do agree with you that no matter what you pay dusty is still dusty and should be cleaned. Hey, maybe Disney is trying to pass off dusty rooms as Pixie Dust!!:tinker:

"Pay for what they want" - what do you consider $355+ per night? I also don't see where freebies such as towel animals or cakes came into this discussion. :confused3 We were talking about turn down service and I believe the argument is whether a deluxe resort should be providing this service based on the category of resort. Again, you may be satisfied with paying for what many consider sub-standard service and I won't take that away from you. My contention is with your belief that no other guest can express their displeasure with the continuous degradation of service. These are real reductions in service and they are so frequent that it is tough to keep track of them without a program. Turn down is a service that is provided at luxurious hotels worldwide so I think it is perfectly understandable for guests to expect such perks at a Disney Deluxe Resort where they claim to provide the "ultimate in luxury, style and service" (their words not mine)! Especially when they are charging a rack rate ranging from $355 to $580 for a standard garden view room.

These are the thoughts according to TC.

But you are confusing a Disney Deluxe Resort with what the rest of the world considers a Deluxe resort. They are not the same. Turn down service is not standard at Disney Deluxe Resorts. This is not a degreadation of service, it is how it has been. If you want turn down service you either need to request it, or stay at a Club level.

But why are you not using the same standard when you are comparing a Disney Resort? Standards are there for a reason and Disney isn't entitled to any more slack than any other estabishment. If they want to play in the big leagues than they have to be prepared for the criticism that goes with it. I note that AAA has restored the coveted 4 Diamond ratings for most of the Deluxe Resorts, including the Polynesian. According to AAA:

"Four Diamond lodgings are refined and stylish. Physical attributes are upscale. The fundamental hallmarks at this level include an extensive array of amenities combined with a high degree of hospitality, service and attention to detail."

While I give Disney credit for their attention to detail and perhaps their amenities, they do not make the grade when it comes to having a high degree of hospitality and service. In these categories they fail miserably and I don't know how AAA can award these Resorts anything above a 3 Diamond rating based on their own protocol. Also unless things have changed, turndown service was required in order to be considered for the 4 Diamond rating. So what gives? :confused3

Why should you have to request turn down service in a deluxe resort or pay even more for Club Level?

I actually like the way the Poly has it set up. If you want turn down service, then ask and it will be provided. I personally don't want it. With 2 bed jumping kids it kind of ruins the effect. :yay: Maybe if it was just DH and I it would be more appealing.

We always cancel it when we stay at hotels outside of WDW. It's just a habit now, but we started it when DD was little and we didn't want any interruptions in case she had already fallen asleep.

Once again. That particular service is offered at GF and at Club Level. If you desire that service you either have to request it at the Poly or stay at Club Level. If you do neither, you will not get turn down service.

And for TC, 4 star ratings aside, you will not get the same amenities at a Disney deluxe resort that you would at other non-Disney Deluxe resorts. The question as to why AAA gave the Poly that rating would best asked of AAA.

The original question was on turn down service, which either needs to be requested at the Poly - or the OP should have stayed CL or at the GF if they wanted the service.

Maybe disney is trying to cut cost right now too so they can still offer free o transportation and things like that ... If you already had your room serviced once in the day it does cost alot to have another full staff to come in and do turn down service. To me its not that important to have my bed turned down at night.... I know you pay alot for the delux resort but why base your stay at disney on turndown service. We stay at the value resorts becuase i dont see paying all that money for a room that your barley in ... My trips to disney are based on the magic moments that i can give my kids not on the room service....:confused3
