Turn Down Service at Poly

Hi I just want to clear this up its not all about the turn down service even though it would have been better then the hammering and sawing noise outside our room. I guess we were expecting a little more for the money we payed. Are we wrong to want something for our money? But hey we are all suckers for the mouse we return to his house in 7 days. I was just looking for a little more bang for my buck and not from a hammer.

A big part of what you are paying for is the location of the resort. And these hotels continuouly have very high occupancy, so until people stop paying the prices, they will continue to increase.

As for turndown service and 4 star hotels, I have stayed at several 4 star (or 4 diamond) hotels over the years, and the only hotel I ever recall getting turndown service is the Grand Floridian. Now on the other hand, in 5 star hotels turndown is pretty much a given.

Me&3 I think your expectations for a Disney resort are where the problem is. At WDW you are paying for location and themeing. And that you get!!!. This is different than any other resort I know. And I am willing to pay deluxe resort prices for these things only at Disney.
We have stayed in a suite at a resort on the beach in Aruba for less than what we pay per night for a Disney deluxe room. That is truly beautiful and deluxe in every sense.
However, I do not expect that level of service from my Disney resort. I understand what I am getting for my money and I am generally satisfied.
Have a Great Trip.

I've never NOT had turn-down service at the Polynesian because we've always stayed club level. However, tomorrow we'll be checking into a standard garden view room, and I definitely will request turn-down service. I happen to really like it. I will be disappointed if we request it and we don't get it. I'll report back after we return.

See, I have the opposite experience. My partner and I travel pretty often whether it be for work or pleasure and Disney is the only 4-Star hotel I've not had turn down service (we almost always stay in a 4 star or higher hotel regardless of the travel purpose).

Other hotel names I've stayed at include Westin, Intercontinental, Kimpton, Loews and Star Hotels. Not once had I needed to ask for turn down and received it ever night of our stay.

THANKS! :sunny: I can't believe that this trip is finally here!!! :cool2:

In the end, maybe they should rate themselves as a 3 or 3.5 star hotel (due to theming).
Ah, but hotels don't rate themselves. Outside, independent companies do.

If a company's inspection list doesn't include turn-down service - no matter how high-end the hotel is, the availability or lack of availability of that service will not influence the rating even the tiniest bit.

Glad I stumbled on this thread. We will be staying at the Poly in the Fall and now I know to request the turn down service. :thumbsup2

We'll be staying at the Poly in just 5 weeks. I know I have to request turn down service if I want it, but does anyone know what time they come to do this?

Our schedule can be all kinds of goofy & I wouldn't want to be in bed already when they arrived to turn down our beds!:rotfl:

I am one of those that are spoiled by cruise vacations in suites and balconies and I just assumed we would have turn down service. I booked a deluxe room so we would have the little extras. What about the washcloth animals I have been reading about - do we need to request those as well?

Those are called towel animals. And they are done only when the housekeeper has time, they are not a given at any level of service. If the resort is full when you are there you probably will not get one. You can always ask, but don't be too upset if you are told no.

SORRY I CAN'T TELL YOU WHAT TIME BECAUSE I AM SAD TO SAY WE NEVER GOT THE SERVICE. WHO KNEW AT OVER THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS A NIGHT THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING YOU NEEDED TO REQUEST:confused3

I also totally understand the OP's curiosity. I am surprised that we pay virtually the same as the GF, yet they get turn down, 2 robes to use in the room and last I knew, USA today went to all the rooms. I don't require all of the above, but for $500+/night? Why don't they? (I know, because people like us will stay regardless). But it does seem a bit unfair. Still love the Poly, but the luxury level isn't there.

Just FYI - turndown service, industry wide, used to be a AAA standard. Now, like a lot of different things in the industry, its become more of a "by request" service....that is, a four-diamond property has to have it *by request* but doesn't have to do it. So don't be too surprised if you no longer see it on a regular basis!

Remember that, especially in these times, turndown service = $$$. You have labor costs, amenity costs, etc. Kind of a sad sign of the times that small luxuries are going away (and an argument that small elements can really make a difference) but also a harsh reality.

I stayed at the Poly in '07 and I did request turn down service. I was told it is a request and will try to be honored, but not guaranteed. Out of 9 nights I got it 7.:)

I was also told I should phone it in each day.

I requested turn down when we first arrived. didn't happen the first night, so I called again...didn't happen the second...called again...on the third night i pretty much got to a foot stamping place and they sent someone over with a fist-full of chocolates as a make up. I thought it would be a nice treat for my kids and it ended up being a hassle.
