Turkey Legs... What do you think?

I always thought they looked disgusting..but on our last trip my DD decided to try one. We found ourselves a table and pulled the meat from the bone and I was pleasantly surprised. It is smoked turkey so it tastes more like ham. I thought it was an excellent source of protein to start the day with. (No flames..we're late sleepers so I'm talking 11:30 am ;) )

We had it a few times throughout the trip and DD got bolder in her consumption:

hehe, its not smoked actually. :)

Don't tell me..I don't want to know.

To each its own. Everything is a matter of preference. Some like it, some don't, some eat it, some don't and that's fine as long as we "live and let live". After all, if everyone only liked yellow, the world would be so boring.

I am veggy soo eeeeeewwwwwwww!!!

But having also worked the Renaissance Faire I find DLR turkey legs both more and less disgusting!

First DLR look less "drippy" the ones at Faire have less tough looking skin. Which kind of looks over cooked to me but what the heck would I know.

But the big reason I prefer DLR's is because I don't have to stand up close and serve some one at DLR a drink with them covered in turkey bits, spitting turkey bits at me nor greasing up my counters with their greasy meat legs. EWWWWWW!!!

I hear over all they are supposed to be good but like the Monte Cristo you have fans and people who would rather drink River of America water then eat one.

Now tell us how you (and I) really feel! :rotfl:

Just to add to the knowledge regarding those not allowed, by religion, to eat pig-based meat, that would also include those who are Jewish.

And all the 7th Day Adventists I've actually known have eschewed pork (and some all meat), but I don't know that many at all. :upsidedow

I personally can't possibly believe that Disney would risk the utter uproar that would happen if they were calling any other meat "turkey".

Ooh, what about a tofurky "leg"? No, never mind, I don't like that all that much. Field Roast "leg"? (trying to increase the veggie offerings)

I just want to say we think they are delicious. DH & I will share a turkey leg and corn dog with carrots or grapes and have a meal. It is smoked and tastes really good. I find no grease in it at all. I mean, if you are a vegetarian then of course you would not order one, but for those of us who eat meat, these are really tasty.

Joking aside, I do know some who love them and some that think they are over cooked.

The ren faire meat description also includes these pastry meat things, cause guest spit, drop and are covered in the pastry bits, I think thats icky too.

Maybe its me but I hate food spit at me no matter what it is :lmao:

i've never eaten one (although i LOVE turkey) but i get a kick out of watching my fellow disneyers go to town on them.

they are wonderfully graceless -- once we snuck videotape of people eating turkey legs. its a hoot!

i hope disney never stops serving them. its all in good fun and obviously some people LOVE them!

me i prefer the caseys corner hotdog or an orbit burger (old name) from tomorrowland terrace (now cosmic rays starlight cafe)

My dad LOVES those silly things. I cant get over how HUGE those are. He always buys one when we sit down in front of the castle waiting for the fire works.

Turkey, pork, cow - whatever - I think they're awsome!:cool1: To avoid any confusion, maybe they should be called meat legs.:confused3

The "turkey legs" sold throughout the park are harvested from gigantic, genetically engineered caterpillars. Aren't they? :confused3

My family loves to bring one to the room at the end of the night. We cut it up and have it with rolls bought at a store for a late night snack. I think they have a bit to much "smoke" to them but the rest of my gang loves them.

My hubby has never been to disneyland but just saw the pic of the leg and says when he gets the chance to go he is gonna have one for sure! But he is a totally manly meat eater! I could see him having atleast 2-3 on a trip!

This board can be so amusing sometimes. But i happen to love Turkey legs.
and the one i always go to is at a cart right behind the matterhorn line towards the walkway taking you to it's a small word.

My Dh and I love them! We have been talking about how we can't wait to get a turkey leg and have our kids try em!

I've hardly noticed the turkey leg presence in DL compared to WDW - they are EVERYWHERE you look in WDW! On our trip there I slyly took a photo of a family of 8 - each consuming a turkey leg (just because I was certain some of my friends would accuse me of overestimating the number of turkey legs we saw). I now feel confident that when I go into the grocery store to purchase a turkey breast - the legs are being sold to Disney!
