Turkey Day Gang 2009

I'm thinking along the same lines as you.

Karen, have a great trip!!

Jodie

We leave in 3 weeks for an eight day eastern on the Carnival Freedom. We did the Carnival Liberty last year and had a great time. We will likely book on board for their new ship the Dream for 2010.:thumbsup2

Just wanted to post so I could see my ticker show <5 months 'til sail date!

Looks like we might be driving... :scared: I wasn't thrilled with the cost to fly SW (nothing like the deals from Baltimore!) despite being online when flights were released. Norfolk isn't high-traffic, so we don't have great prices. However, I feel like we could always change our minds if (when?) prices come down. We're doing multiple car trips this summer so our kids are becoming seasoned travelers. The plus of driving, of course, is I don't have to worry about counting or weighing my bags. :thumbsup2 I already booked hotels at both the port (with free parking) and MCO, so I'm covered either way.

AND, I figured out what I'm doing for our FE gifts! :goodvibes

Karen, glad the news looks good. Rob, have a great trip!

Pirate night: we'll dress up somewhat (bandanas, eyepatches, etc)
Formal: we'll be in nicer clothes than other nights, but no tux or gowns for us!

Am I all caught up? :)

Have a great weekend!

We received our "welcome" package today!! :cool1: :thumbsup2 There's a booklet w/ excursion info and ship info and a letter with the dates that everything can be booked on line and final payment due!! :cool1: :thumbsup2

Time is passing very quickly!! :cool1: :thumbsup2 :)

We will dress up for formal night, DH will wear his tux, and DM (92) will outdo us all.:rotfl: Dressing for Pirate night is so much fun and we will do that, too. My facebook picture was taken on our last cruise with two of our grandkids. DH looked better than Jack Sparrow.LOL:goodvibes

arrgghhhhhhh! I'm in Lisbon and my hotel room is so hot that I want to die! I think I had my first "hot flash" last week...of course it was like 98 degrees outside but I swear to you I have never been that hot in my life....until now! I have already taken a shower (actually 2 of them) and I can't get dry because I keep sweating the minute I get out of the shower! I honestly can feel the steam rising from my body and my face is so red...it looks like I fell asleep in the sun for about a month with no sunscreen on at all (and of course, I didn't!).

Sorry to whine, but I figured the ladies who are my age or older could sympathize with me. Sign me trying to think cold thoughts....and desperately seeking ice in Europe...

Karen

Oh Dang - hot flashes - or power surges - internal fireworks - oh man - :headache::headache::headache:
in the middle of the night - it is horrible - I jump out of bed and am SOAKED - DH is all wrapped up in comforter and I am on fire!! ugh!!!!

DD bought her luggage today -- got 9west piece at Big Lots for $40 --- it is very nice - she had $20 and borrowed $20 from me....

I need to have her get a job - our insurance jumped $75 a month when I added to her to our policy - eekkkk

Karen --

I hope it was just the heat and I hope something cools off for you. Sending ice your way.

Lisa --

What do you think of the luggage? I need some more.

Karen! That is fantastic news!! I just started my new job and put in for T-giving week and its already approved too!

5 months I can't believe it.

Our family dresses up for formal night. dh has a tux and I got ds one from ebay for 19.99 and he LOVES to wear it. (He wore it to his piano recital last week). We do hawaiian shirts and bandanas for pirate night.

I'm so jealous you got your welcome package already. I just made dh go check the mail box - yes 10pm on sunday - we never did get saturday's mail - and its not there.

Our bracelets arrived, and so did our fishextender and pillowcases. The pilllow cases are even nicer than I expected. Got the kids wall-e, jasmine & aurora. We're saving them until closer to departure.

Has anyone else tried to stay up at night to book palo's, excursions, or the spa? What was your experience? Did you start at midnight? 2 yrs ago I had a terrible time trying to book for our 3 cabins and it took forever b/c it was so slow. And I had hoped to book my mom on a parasailing excursion and I checked that first, but it was completely booked.

Yeah, I'm sure it really stinks to BE IN LISBON!! Sorry babe - no sympathy from me! At least you're hot in Europe, NOT Missouri!! OK - yes, I'm jealous - wish I was there too. Hope you cool off soon! :goodvibes

Yeah, I know...whining about being in Lisbon...WHAT? I'm not kidding you, my room must have been about 90 degrees last night. The problem is that they turn off the "coolers" at night and my room wasn't cooled down yesterday. The "coolers" came on about 4 a.m. and I finally got cool enough to sleep well (as opposed to fitfully and taking a shower every 2 hours!)(no, I'm not kidding!).

Well, I'm off for meetings today. Yesterday we saw the Castelo San Jorge and the Se (which is the local Cathedral...dates back to 12th Century!). It's amazing here. Tomorrow we go to Belem and I'm hoping Sintra!

I'll post pics (when I get home).

Helllo ---
The luggage at big lots was actually very nice - they had an amazing three piece set for $100 - very sharp looking. Blue and White - but I told DD that she did NOT need all of that.

I have a nice set already so I am good - but if anyone has a BIG LOTS near them - check them out - the sale they had yesterday was impressive

OK call me totally silly - when I read LISBON I thought of MAINE...not sure if there is even a LISBON MAINE...but that is the first thing I thought of...

Hope you have a great time :)

Hi Lisa,

Not silly at all! I know I do the same thing (we have places like Cairo, IL and Haiti, MO...though it's spelled Hayti and pronounced Hay Tie)!

I've never been to Portugal before so if someone had said Lisbon...I'd be trying to figure out Lisbon where?

I think I'm gonna have to tell Steve about the luggage sale at Big Lots! I refuse to buy expensive luggage as it seems another flight...there goes another suitcase!

Bye for now all!

Karen

Karen - I can't wait to see the pictures!

I have got to get moving on getting our passports, and ordering the bracelets. Our friends might be dropping out of the cruise due to a furlough at his work. :guilty: I'm keeping my fingers crossed for them. :wizard:

We are leaving for WDW this Friday! :woohoo:

That sounds pretty miserable, actually. Couldn't they put you in another room? Would love to see your pictures! Keep us posted on whats going on. Any good beaches there?

We're going to Sintra and Belem on Wednesday for meetings. There are supposed to be incredible beaches up that way (wish I could go for a swim there!). Portugal is one place I'd love to come back to and explore. There's a lot of moorish history here as well as Spanish and British. Unbelievably, anything built after the earthquake of 1755 (and yes, I mean seventeen fifty-five...no typo) is considered NEW!

It's also pretty inexpensive here. The Metro is about 1 Euro for a one way trip and taxis haven't been expensive either...about 6 Euro is the most I've paid. Tonight, we ate at a really good restaurant and (including 2 bottles of wine), appetizers, a salad/soup for each of us, an entree and dessert, dinner was less than 100 Euro for three of us! Oh yes, and I had a lobster, one of my colleagues had the biggest prawns I've ever seen in my entire life and my other colleague had crab.

As to the room, the issue is apparently that you have to leave your key in this card reader thing to keep the a/c on during the day. So, I got a 2nd key and I kept my a/c on all day...and my room is actually comfortable tonight. Unfortunately, (it is common in much of Europe) they shut down the "chillers" at night and just have the fan on...so if you get back late to your room, it's just hot!

Well, TTFN...it's nearly midnight here and I'm ready to turn into a pumpkin.

We got ours, too! :) My DD10 enjoyed browsing through it last night. :goodvibes

Karen, sounds like you're having fun! I was one of those who asked (silently, to myself), "Where is Lisbon?" So thanks for explaining.

Yes, for our last cruise I stayed up to book at midnight, and was glad I did! I was able to book parasailing, Palo brunch and dinner. And a short time later they were sold out.

I had 2 rooms that were linked, so I was able to book everyone at once. If your ressies aren't linked, talk to your travel agent OR call DCL -- being linked makes things much easier. And if I recall correctly, I had 2 windows open -- excursions on one and Palo on the other.

Hope that helps!
