Tug 2 hawaii trade!! OPinions please

This summer we traded for the Hilton Hawaiian village. We gave 1 week at a 1BR - Boardwalk guarenteed - room for 1 week in a 2BR - Plus room (That is ocean view). When I researched the cost of a 2BR for the week we were going, the rate was over $500 a night per the hilton website. I would do this trade again in a heartbeat. Also I think the guy wants to go again if you want his name.

I agree with the previous poster about only using two timeshares on Oahu. I would only consider the Hilton and the Marriott. The Hilton would be the best choice if you want to be near the action. The Marriott is the best choice if you want peace and solitude.

The 2BR unit was very comprable to DVC with the exception of the master bath. These condos are converted apartments so the both baths were of "regular" size - no jacuzzi. But like said in a previous post, the were very nice- granite counter tops and a huge lanai (veranda). Also the Lagoon tower had its own pool in addition to the main pool. Our view was of the west harbor. The sunsets were incredible. I think I would prefer this view over the beach view.

Some have asked where I got $500 for a 2 BR. Well I just went to www.hilton.com and asked for a suite - 4 adults - 2 kids at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for a week in June 2005. (we went in June) To get a quote - don't specify the HGVC, but just that you want the HHV. Here is what I got back

Wow............thanks for all the great advice. I have heard from 2 people through Tug2.

Dh and I sat and talked last night about this trip but kept getting interupted by the girls (homework help, bath time, story time!!). We need to sit down and really work this out. I am feeling rushed right now and yet, the vacation seems so far away (Aug. 2005)!!

It is such a long flight from Boston. One thought we are having is postponed until summer 2006, spend time in California then Hawaii. Maybe do another type of trade to an island that isn't as far...............?????

Thanks everyone for all the advice.................I am soooooo confused!!!!!

Those pics are great! It is such a beautiful place and I love the open air lobbies. Now I want to go back!!

Rosemary, yes it is a long flight - we flew from the east coast too. I had thought of spending a night in LA or San Francisco to break up the trip but didn't want to waste time away from Hawaii, have to get to a hotel, deal with security, etc. So I found flights that had stopovers on the way. Going to Hawaii, our plane stopped in LA for 2 hours; coming back it stopped in San Franciso for 1.5 hours. That works out very well (especially would be good for the kids); it gives you a chance to stretch out and have a meal and you don't have to worry about making a connection. Those flights are hard to find but you might get lucky.

I can sympathize with you on the flight. Matt (9) handled better than expected. We bought a new gameboy game so he was content most of the flight. We almost did what you are suggesting, but then decided to just get it over with. We flew from Nashville to Atlanta to Honolulu. I think the total flight time was 12 hours. Nine hours was spent from Atlanta to Honolulu. 1 1/2 from Nashville to Atlanta and 1 1/2 layover. On the return flight we took an overnight flight - that way we slept most of the time.

If you do go to honolulu next year, let me know. I will tell you the great places recommended for food by the locals. Above all get the Entertainment Book for Hawaii. It probably saved us $500 off meals, shows and admissions. We saved $75 just on our luau tickets.
