TTC and Hotel to Hotel

I've only been to WDW once, and I thought that the TTC was in Downtown Disney, but it's not, right?

I thought that to get from hotel to hotel (unless you're in the same area) there was a whole rigamarole about going through the TTC. Which is not in DTD? Or do I go to DTD to go from hotel to hotel?

Sorry if this is confusing - I'm confusing myself, and my memory is totally failing. Thanks for all your help.

TTC is for Transportation and Ticket Center which is the parking lot for the Magic Kingdom. DTD is Downtown Disney - a shopping, eating entertainment area.

To get from resort to resort you can either transfer via a park or DTD but not usually the TTC except for the monorial resorts.

Depending on the resort and the time of day you can transfer easier via the closest park instread of going to DTD.

If you want to post more specific questions as to where you need to go I am sure you will get some great answers/options !

Even for the monorail resorts, one would not be transferring at TTC, because there are no buses from the (non-monorail) resorts to TTC.

One would take the bus to MK, and transfer to the Resort Monorail there.

The transportation system at WDW is wonderfully efficient. As you've already been told, the TTC is just across the lake from the MK. It is basically the parking lot for the MK. This is also where you would get the monorail to Epcot and buses to both DHS and AK when at MK.
Each resort has transportation to, and from, DTD. There is no transportation to any park from DTD though.

Now, if you are at one resort and want to get to another resort??? That's a bit harder. It all depends on where you are, and where you want to be. If you are at, say, Pop Century, and you want to get to the CR to eat at Chef Mickey's, then you would take a bus to the MK and then either walk (my preferred method) or monorail over to the CR.
Or....you are at BW and want to go to the Polynesian....bus to MK, boat or monorail to the Polynesian.

If you let us know where you are starting from, and where you need to be, we can give you pretty specific routes!!

Thanks everyone. I think I conflated TTC and DTD in my head somehow.

We are going to dinner at Jiko from Boardwalk Inn AFTER the Animal Kingdom park closes. Do I:
(1) Take a bus from BI to DTD
(2) change buses at DTD
(3) catch a bus from DTD to AKL

-Or-

Taxi: I remember something similar on our last trip and recall that the trip from AKL back to the hotel being particularly arduous. I wished I had taken a cab. Is it easy or hard to get cabs at the resorts? I don't need street addresses, right? I can just tell them "Boardwalk Inn" and they'll know?

So at no point (in this process at least) do I need the TTC?

Thanks again.

You can certainly take a taxi, which would be the fastest way to go. Or, if the DHS is open you can walk over there and get the AKL bus from the Studios.
You can take the bus to DTD from the Boardwalk, once you get to DTD then you have to transfer to a bus going to the AKL. If you do this I would leave an hour earlier than your reservation time.
If it were me, I'd walk over to DHS, it's a nice walk, the path is clearly marked. Once you get over to DHS, just go to the bus stop for the AKL, it is one of the first bus stops after the park exit. You can do the reserve after your dinner.
If you are pressed for time, have bell services call a taxi and go directly to AKL or the Boardwalk, depending on whether you are going to or leaving dinner.

90 minutes is the recommended allowance, and especially when DTD is involved.

You can use DTD as your transfer spot, but it can take forever. If DHS is open you could walk over there and take their bus to AKL (as already noted). If it is still open when you're done eating, take the bus to DHS from AKL and then walk or boat back to BW.
Or, just take a cab back to BW.

Cab is definitely the quickest option, but I hate spending extra money when it's not absolutely necessary.

DHS is almost always open later than AK. AK is usually the earliest park to close. DHS is likely to still be open at least when you're trying to get to dinner at Jiko. In that case, I'd just walk to DHS and catch the AKL bus from there. DHS may possibly be closed when you're done with dinner, but park transportation might still be running (check the park hours for your trip), especially if it's an EMH evening, in which case you can just reverse this trip (bus to DHS then walk to BWI) on the way back from AKL.

Thanks everyone! I can't believe it didn't occur to me to walk to DHS and catch the bus from there.

One more quick Q: everyone is suggesting I catch the bus from DHS - why not Epcot?

Because the EPCOT buses are at the front of EPCOT and not at the Intl. Gateway entrance. To get to the EPCOT buses from BWI would mean walking through EPCOT (and using a ticket to enter at the Intl. Gateway), to the front of the park. That's a pretty good walk. Walking over to DHS does not require park entrance, and it's a more direct way to get to a bus.
