I think I remember from the big one, that the problem is that you don't get a crest until the sea bottom starts to shallow. So, it's really hard to know how big it is going to be until it gets near land. It has to do with how the wave moves through the ocean.

Yep, I just heard that the watch has been canceled for the area. The Tsunami would have hit Fiji by now, and there was nothing that appeared. Sounds like the same thing is happening in NZ. Whew!
