TSM with infant

Has anyone taken their young infant on TSM. Our dd will be 5m old when we travel in April. I didn't know if there is room to hold the baby in a sling on my front during the ride, or if it would be better to do the baby swap for this ride?

My son was 22 months when he first rode this, which is obviously different than 5 months, but he was fine and a little baby would be okay in a sling or whatever. There's a lap bar that comes down, but in a Bjorn you could stick the baby's legs over that. Trying to think of the sling, hmm, with my son at 3/4 months I think we just pulled the bar as close as it would go when he was in the sling.

I don't think you could baby swap on it as there is no height restriction and they usually don't allow swapping in that case.

She should be fine. You might not be able to play all that well, but you will definitely get the gist of the ride. BTW, you can use child swap on TSM. We've done it before. And I think you can use child swap on ANY attraction.

When we went in September, we took our then 7 mo. old son on TSM and he had a ball! At the time, they were only letting infants ride that were able to face in the sitting position with the lap bar going over his/her lap. So, if you have the infant in a Baby Bjorn (or similar carrier) facing out, you will be fine. They were not letting moms with infants in slings ride with the infant remaining in the sling. Obviously, as always, unwritten "rules" can change depending on the cast member. I would not recommend just holding an infant on your lap without a carrier holding him/her as this ride can jerk you around enough to potentially let him/her slip.

That is really dependent on the CM working the attraction. My daughter went through a phase where she was afraid of practically every ride (dark and loud noises) and we were denied baby swap at every ride without a height restriction except Haunted Mansion. And at that one the CM told us it wasn't allowed, he'd he'd okay it cause he knew lots of kids were freaked out by that ride.

Just adding this cause I wouldn't plan on using it only to be disappointed if I can't.

I am not sure. I took my son on the ride when he was 6 months old but I was told by all the CMs that he must sit in the seat (couldn't sit on our laps). I had to take him out of his baby carrier (he was facing forward). This was back in May. Maybe things was have changed by now.

There is room and My son 22 months sat on my mom's lap to start out. But I will tell you that the ride whips you around a little and it freaked him out so for the rest of the ride he clung to me screaming everytime the car whipped. I am sure if the baby is in the sling they would feel more secure. I also say everychild is different so really I am sure the baby will be fine. Have fun.

I got denied a swap for the Pirates ride. They said there was no height restriction and she was physically capable of going on despite being afraid, so no swap.

My ds was 21 months and he loved it but the ride does whip you around to each shooting gallery. I had to hold onto the sleeve of his shirt because he was sliding around. I'd be concerned for your child's neck, I think maybe the baby is too small if they won't let you wear a carrier.

Hmmm....my 22 month old decided she wanted to stand and have a look behind us during the ride. If it whipped around while doing that--even better! So, I didn't do my best since I had one had on her.

BUT, for the OP, don't do rider swap. This ride is more fun with someone you know. DH and I love these kind of "competition" rides. I wouldn't ride them without him (until DD is older and someone gets aced out).

Here in Disneyland they will NOT allow you on to the ride if your child is in a carrier. They must be sitting next to you on the seat. There is room for 2 adults and an infant inthe vehicle. The lap bar is divided in half to allow for a VERY small child to sit in the second seat and be snuggly held down, but as previous posters mentioned, the whip is enough to make a parent worry - so I always have my arm around my (now) 2 yr old when we finish and start to move away from each shooting gallery segment.

That being said, they do have a single rider line at DL which moves very quickly and it is easy to child swap using that line. I personally would swap with a 5 month old (I work in healthcare and feel that a 5 month old's neck is still a bit weak to handle that much whipping. YMMV). Yes, your score will be somewhat compromised by not having that familiar partner to help with the increased score possibilities, but your child will be safer.

Thanks for everyone's opinion. I think we'll let dd sit this one out. Dh and I were there in Sept for a last hurrah trip w/o the kids and I didn't really think about what we would do with the baby on this upcoming trip. Thinking back, I would not want her to sit in the middle seat as she will be too small to sit up on her own, and I worry about her neck control during those fast spins. Dh and I will just have to take turns with dd1 and dd2. I wil see if they will allow it if she is in a mei tai where she will have some head support if I feel it will be safe enough for her.
