EMH are to be avoided these days. I don't consider them a perk, just notice to go to avoid the park that has them. We haven't done an EMH in the morning in years. They used to be good, but with all the new resort capacity they built, they aren't.
So now you agree they are restricting BOG to onsite only with this test.
As I have said many times, I have no issue with offering onsite guests more. I have an issue with degrading the offsite guest's experience in order to do so. It is possible to offer perks without taking things away from others.
I'm agreeing their limiting lunch to on site only.
The fact that the restaurant is incredibly popular and it's difficult to secure ADR's is not something Disney has control over. Disney is not restricting access, the popularity of it is.
Either that, or they need to reduce the price of their rooms because the only thing that justifies the prices is getting some significant perks.
Really depends on the touring style you employ but I agree this is definitely not a perk if you don't arrive early and park hop. We were first in line this morning at MK for AM EMH and had half the park down by 9. Would have had every single headliner plus a couple of 'smaller' rides by 10 had Splash, Railroad, and Pirates not been down.
All MK headliners (and by this I mean 7DMT, all mountains, HM, POTC, PP) plus back at resort by 1030am for the pool is not a bad morning when planning to hop to Epcot that evening.
Popularity may be restricting access, but Disney is selectively restricting that access.
Don't know if this means anything scary, but wanted to share something odd from today at MK. We were in the FP line for SDMT, and the CM Asked us if we would be here next week. When we told him yes, for the first part of it, he handed us a small stack of rider switch passes for SDMT and said, "you might need these." Hope that doesn't mean it's coming here next.
No worries, I just haven't seen that before.![]()
This. So much this. We hit Universal for a few nights before coming to BWV (first trip to the dark side). Wow, what you get at Portofino vs. BWV is astounding. I remember laughing when we walked in and commenting that this room would be kind of like staying in a Motel 6 if it weren't sitting on the Boardwalk. (Yeah, a bit of a stretch but not too much!)
As soon as I saw this the "Dis Hysteria" alarm went off.
And the next few pages proved that it wasn't a false reading.

We do park hop, we just don't find we can get a lot done in the morning EMH that we can't get done on a regular morning where we can spend a bit more time before it's packed - probably till lunch before going back to the resort for a break before hopping to the next park.
With EMH you have the resort guests, then at opening you have the resort guests who meant to get to emh, didn't make it but it was in their plans so came anyway, on site guests who are coming to that park despite emh, plus the off site crowd- all combined after the first hour.
So for us, making rope drop on a regular morning works much better.
That isn't our experience, especially at the busy holiday times when those AM EMH can start as early as 7 AM. We can usually get a few major attractions done in that first hour and then be a step ahead of the masses for the next hour or two before the crowd really builds up. Then we're ready for lunch and a few no wait attractions before a break in the afternoon (which at my age is necessary after 5-6 hours in a park). We can then enjoy a few hours relaxing with our 3 FPs (in a different park) ready to go for the late afternoon or evening.
Selfishly, getting rid of all AM EMH would upset me more than making a ride like TSMM FP only (which I wouldn't like either) because as far as I'm concerned TSMM has always been FP only after the first 30 minutes or so during those holidays when we usually have to travel.
Huh. Your definition of hysteria is obviously quite different from mine.
We don't travel during the holidays anymore, so it may well work differently then. Sounds like other than avoiding the emh, we tour pretty much exactly the same. 5-6 hrs is about all my old feet can take a one time!
I certainly don't want them to do away with emh! If nothing else, it thins out the crowds in the park we choose to go to in the morning! lol I just don't think it's the great perk it used to be back when there were just a handful of hotels on site. Oh for the days of just the Poly, Contemporary and Fort Wilderness...sigh....![]()

If they do go any further with this ridiculous no-SB idea, they had better well allow you to pre-book FPs in more than one park. If you can't, a PH is pretty much useless.
If I use my 3 FPs at MK and then hop over to HS to find that there is no way to ride the most popular ride in the park, I'll be a bit...displeased.
I do find some of the support for this to be entertaining. I feel there is a certain group for whom Disney can do no wrong. I can see it now. Disney decided to replace a popular food item (burgers, Mickey bars, whatever) with dog doo on a stick. Go! "It's environmentally friendly!" "It's vegetarian!" "I like the earthy, nutty flavor!" "It's low in fat and cholesterol!"
EMH has only been around for about 10 years. Only one resort has been added in that time that I know of (AoA) and some DVC properties attached to existing resorts.
