TSA Luggage Locks

Just wanted to share our experience during our vacation and the use of TSA approved luggage locks. We arrived at the airport and went through the usual security screening (no gels or liquids over 3 oz., their 3-1-1 program). After receving our boarding passes, we handed our luggage over to the screeners. The guy who took our luggage saw the TSA luggage locks and said "these will be perfect" and they were.

Our luggage (both ways) arrived in great condition with the locks still affixed to our luggage. If TSA had to open our luggage, they relocked the luggage and nothing was disturbed or missing.

Each TSA lock has a master number on it so the TSA officials can open the locks with a master key. Being able to lock our luggage was peace of mind. The fact that our clothes didn't arrive separately from our luggage (in the past zippers on our luggage have easily moved during transport) can save much embarassment in airports. :lmao:

We have gone on 2 trips now with our TSA approved locks. I feel much more confident with them. Especially when we are using services such as the Magical Express where the luggage isn't with us for an extended amount of time (other than at the airport). We have had great luck so far. We purchased ours at Wal Mart on the clearance rack. CHEAP, and SO worth it.

Will these keep your stuff safe in your rooms too? I am kinda worried about things being stolen out of our rooms from mousekeeping. I had a bottle of perfume come up missing last trip, and I have heard of others say phones, chargers etc have come up missing. Thanks:goodvibes

I'm interested to know more about these locks too! Where can you pick up a set?

I'd love to have them for the hotel as well.. I like bringing my Laptop with me to different places, but I'm paranoid its gonna get stolen - esp. if i have to leave it in the hotel room :scared: .

wal-mart sells them. If you check airline web sites or FAA site they tell you to use only TSA locks since they have master key, If you dont have TSA locks and they need to check the bag they can and will pop the lock (break it) so then you will be unlocked to the entire time. TSA locks have been around a long time.

I'm glad to hear you had a positive experience with the TSA locks. I received some with my new suitcase but hadn't tried them yet. I will for trip next month! Thanks!!

I haven't seen these locks yet but I'm guessing they are good for stopping the zipper from opening but probably not great at keeping a thief out. I'm thinking someone could open it with a pin or tool in a matter of seconds. I usually feel safer without them as if you have a lock on your luggage some might think there is something of value inside and want to check it out for themselves. I prefer to go without a lock and not put anything of great value in my luggage (whenever possible of course). That's just my opinion though.

We use these locks, too! I have black 3-digit combination locks for the top of our suitcases and smaller brass key locks for the front zippered pockets. They work great! The black ones have an indicator that changes color if they have been opened at the airport by the TSA, so you know for sure what bags were screened. I bought mine at Wal-Mart - it was the cheapest place I could find.

If your bag is opened/screened at the airport, they place a piece of paper in your luggage (on top) telling you that they opened your luggage.

We found some Brinks TSA approved locks at Walmart today. We really are not too worried about locking them at the airport, I wan't them locked in the rooms when we are not there.

Thank you for posting about these locks. I picked up two packs at Target this evening - lime green of course - lol, I'm learning that's *the* color around here ;)

Did you let guest services know that your things went missing? Im sure they would want to know.
We used the tsa locks last time and they were great. We found ours at Sears.

Love those TSA locks! Use them mostly to secure luggage (laptop) in our hotel room and if I have a "mommie" moment and "accidently" lock our bags when we check out, its not a problem for security. Also leave one on my hand carry, so if I have to store my bags at the hotel if rooms aren't ready or before leaving for the airport, I know its secure as well....little paranoid, I know....
