i'm planning a solo WDW trip for april 2015.

my government issued photo ID will expire on my birthday in may 2015.

is there gonna be a problem at security due to my ID expiring in less than a month after my flights?

i mean obviously it will be valid at the time but do they require it to be valid for a particular length of time in order to use it as ID to fly?

hmmm in that same line of thought will i be able to check into my disney world resort and purchase alcoholic beverages using an ID that will expire just a few weeks later?

if it will be a problem i can bring my passport that is valid until march 2016 although i'd prefer not to have to keep track of it when i'm just traveling domestically.

That is not a problem on domestic. There are issues if you are traveling internationally and there is less than 6 months on your passport.
