I got my drivers license right before our state changed to the new drivers license with all the fancy security stuff (Real ID benchmarks). My husband has the new one with his picture on there twice, one is a holograph etc... I just have the plain ol' Virginia Drivers license.

I just read the following on the TSA website. Will I be okay?

Drivers Licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent) that meets REAL ID benchmarks (All states are currently in compliance)

I hope this post makes sense. :confused3

Thanks! I thought that might be the answer, but you just never know anymore. I try to avoid DMV at all costs. :laughing:

Worst case (for now - after 2017* things may be different) they'll just pull you aside for a secondary id inspection. Just leave extra time.

_____
* by December 1, 2014, for individuals born on/after December 1, 1964; by December 1, 2017, regardless of age.

That is good to know! Thanks!

I've been using my Passport for flights for a couple of years now.

Yes, as others have said, you will have no problem. I'd wager that the majority of US fliers do NOT have a REAL ID compliant license. I know I don't, and I fly all the time! The REAL ID Act was passed in 2005. I know here in NY they didn't start issuing them until early 2008 and only a couple of other states had done the same by then. In fact, the REAL ID standards weren't even finalized until late 2007.

I thought Virginia was one of the states refusing to comply with Real ID?

I think that's fair, and fair to prohibit Virginia folks from Federal facilities and airline travel. :)
