TSA at MCO randomly requiring 2 id's when going through security

They are not requiring it. They are randomly stopping people and asking for a second ID.

Great, since all I have with myself when I travel is my license and insurance card. This is NOT going to keep anyone safer, how dumb.

so, if they're told no 2nd photo ID in hand, then it's 'just' off to extra security:confused3 or do they refuse to let you fly (i doubt that'd fly;))

regardless, thanx for posting, im sure we'll see reports sooner than later here.

The TSA people should be tarred and feathered...

I personally loved a couple years back when they took our nail clippers...im like hello...im a pilot...I can just push the yoke over??? Still they wouldnt allow em...

They get ridiculous. If they hassle you, remember the agents name. Dont hassle em. When you get home write 3 letters. 1 to your congressman. 1 to the TSA "general complaint line" and 1 to the TSA Station Manager at that particuliar airport.

I haven't experienced the extra ID request at security checkpoint at MCO, but last December, TSA was randomly asking passengers to show their boarding pass and & ID at the Gate before boarding a Southwest Flight to Indianapolis. I was on the flight with 3 other DISer's returning home after the DIS sponsored DISapalooza Weekend.

TSA requires one ID. They may ask if you have a second ID, but if you dont have another one,no worries, you will still get on your flight. We always use our passports and i wouldn't show them my DL even though i always also have it on me.....because i don't have to, no matter if they ask or not. Just say no.

This is almost getting to the point where you will need a Passport just to get on a plane---

I have one photo ID and that's it. My Glen Rock Library card will have to suffice if I'm yanked out of line for a "second" ID.

And I agree with several others--this does absolutely nothing to enhance security, especially when done on a "random" basis. Who in the world do they think they will catch that way???

It's as ridiculous as it is sublime.

WAIT!! WAIT!! I DO have a second photo ID--my Sam's Club card!!

Problem solved!!!!

This just gave me something extra to worry about at the airport so rather than worry I am going to get pasport cards for both DH and I and will suggest to my mom and dad to do the same.
DH and my dad will both have to undergo extra screening anyway because they both have metal in their bodies that will set off the machines as well as both needing CPAP machines that will have to be swabbed and dad will be on oxygen that will also need to be swabbed. So while DH and dad get screened mom and I will have to collect all our stuff and attend to the stuff getting swabbed, just a little stressful. So I figure we'll just get the 2nd ID just in case in order to save any MORE extra screening for any of us and save what time we can.
Thanks for posting this OP!

In June I was flying SW out of Fort Lauderdale and the TSA was pulling people aside at the gate for secondary screening. The A group had already lined up to board and they pulled a few people out of line, patted them down, searched their carryons, and got them back in line before boarding started. Then as I was walking in the boarding line, towards the gate to board, they pulled me aside for secondary screening. I was a little peeved because I'd paid extra for the early bird boarding and it made me lose my spot in line and I ended up boarding a lot further back in line than I was supposed to. If they are going to do that, they really should make sure they get it done before actual boarding begins.

But back on topic, I don't carry my passport with me if I'm traveling domestically. They will have to be satisfied with my DL.

Not disputing but we just returned yesterday, I did not see anybody asked for a second ID but I did notice them taking their time comparing the driver licence &/or passports to the boarding passes verifying names. And also really looking at people in the face with the drivers license to make sure it was them.

Did not see anybody get a pat down but there were a couple people in front of us that were making the metal detector beep & the line was backing up.

So be aware of who is infront of you because had I not, my purse with all my "stuff" would have been going through the scanners before I made it through.

As it turned out, when I got through I could not find my CPAP & it annoyed my that one of the inspectors had walked off with it to scan it without my being present. I'm very particular about my medical equipment & who touches it.
