Trying to purchase renewal certificate for pass that renews in June to get 13 month promotion

Hi,

My ap expires in June 2017. I just called to purchase a renewal certificate now so I can get the 13 month promotion and activate it when my current ap period ends. I was told they no longer sell renewal certificates more than 60 days before the current ap renewal date. I have purchased the certificates in the past to beat price increases but it's been a while.

I know some phone folks don't have correct answers all the time. I thought I would check here and see if someone could tell me if I should keep calling or the policy has changed. I currently have a DVC gold ap and I am trying to renew it for another DVC gold ap if that matters.

Thanks,
Epcot Mom

I believe this 13 month period was extended for those renewing APs for up to one year from the original announcement...

Disney site says, and has been my experience ...

"Annual Passes can be renewed up to 60 days before and 30 days after expiration."

This has also been my experience for at least the last two times I have renewed.

I have not been able to renew our annual passes sooner than 60 days out. You can purchase a new ap certificate for $80 more that you can activate any time you wish and get the 13 months.

I've done this a couple times over the years when the gap between trips made the renewal discount a loss. Add the three month perk I could see just buying a new pass.

I'm trying to buy a new Gold AP and every time I add it to my cart, it takes me to my cart and says my cart is empty. I have been trying for the last three days with the same results. As a DVC member, what number should I call to purchase over the phone? Member Services or WDW ticketing??

You can't purchase an AP renewal that many months ahead of time. If you want to purchase during the promotion window, it has to be a new AP, I believe (or have your AP come up for renewal DURING that promo window). That AP will activate whenever you visit the park for the first time after your current pass expires.

Member services can do that for you.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I guess the days of being able to "pre-renew" for a promotion or price increase savings are over.
Have a great day!

I had the exact some problem in November. I called MDE support staff a couple of times and after having the same thing happen on two different PCs and three different browsers, they gave up and had me call DVC Member Services and buy them over the phone.

Didn't they extend the offer for renews and you have until oct1 to renew now? new AP holders the offer does still end next week.

I think they must have extended it because I renewed mine two days before the promotion started and got an email this week that says I can go to guest relations anytime prior to my current expiration date and have it extended for the free month. My current expiration date is in November.

For renewals, at lease for the DL side, it was longer (for an entire year) than the new purchase promotion, giving people who were not up for renewal the same chance for the extra month. I would imagine it's the same for WDW, so you should be fine with renewing at your normal time and still getting the bonus month.

When did the email come? I was more than a couple days (about a month before). I've been bugging guest relations, ticketing and anyone that will listen that it wasn't fair that peopel who happened to renew in the window got an extra month because we can't pick any date to renew on. Nobody ever told me no and keep looking into it more but this is a nice compromise and I think a fair one. I could have waited to renewed and hit oct 1 in my window.

Now here is the new question, how many more passholders did they move renewal a month to have a more lucrative immediate return on future ap price increases (that usually happen around nov)

It was last Tuesday. I hadn't tried to get the free month. I just figured I was out of luck. I renewed my pass 9/27 so I would be ready to do FP for my early December trip. If they are extending, then you should get the extra month on your next renewal right (assuming you don't get an email in the meantime)? My sister bought a new AP on 9/17, and she has not received any email about an extension (she doesn't usually go to Disney in October so it wouldn't be of benefit anyway).

Maybe they are working back through the renewals that "could" have taken place during the promotion but went through early.

The renewal date is when it's activated so she will see the 13th month when activated. If she doesn't activate it within 18 months, she will not get it. If it's been activated then there is an issue she needs to inquire about.

It was a new AP purchase (not a renewal) and activated the day of purchase. It could be that she will be offered the extended renewal next September, but she's not really concerned about it since she doesn't go in October anyway. She doesn't get an AP every year as she tends to get Disney overload a lot more quickly than I do - she's more of an every other year or every third year AP holder.

It is encouraging that some are saying the renewals can be for 13 months even if after January 3rd. Just curious if anyone has seen this somewhere? I just read all the fine print on the ap page and didn't find it. When I called DVC Member Services yesterday they said I had to buy a new pass to get the 13 months. In the past when I have called the main ticketing number about a DVC renewal they directed me to DVC for all questions.

This is what I was told when I called last week that if you had an AP and you renewed with in your window you would get the 13 months free thing. I guess we will find out in a few weeks
