Has anyone ever taken the time to compare the various points charts within DVC with an eye on figuring out why a studio in one place requires more points than a studio in another?

I ask because one thing that I noticed is that AKL has studios for only 8 points, while SSR starts at 11, and the differences remain through the various levels (though AKL apparently has different sub levels) yet the general consensus around here is that AKL is the hot place that everyone wants to go to. So why did DVC start the studios so low there?

I guess my questions is - has anyone figured out the thinking that went into the point system for the various resorts?

most point costs are fairly standard. OKW is pretty low...the general explanation is "because it was 1st" and they realized they could charge more later on.

that may also be the explanation for the BWV studios with lesser views that can go below 10 pts a night.

AKV value rooms are smaller - studios are 316ish sq ft compared to 390 for OKW due to converting them from AKL's hotel rooms - and that's largely the reason they are cheaper. cramped rooms don't typically go for deluxe prices so that's the reason they can dip below 10 pts a night. concierge rooms at AKV OTOH are the most expensive studios available...

(and while lots of people love AKV's theme and animals and dining options...some consider it "unflorida-like" and others think it's too far from the MK...not sure how "hot" it is - or will be over the long-term.)

You'll drive yourself crazy with this sort of thing. Keep in mind that some resort/room/time-of-year combinations are hot *because* the point costs are low.

AKV may be hot but we are adding points to our ssr contract. Yes it is a larger resort but I love being close to down town Disney. I find it very relaxing.
