Trying to Hire a Babysitter is Making Me Crazy

I am just trying to find a weekend babysitter. Not a lifetime committment, just a couple of nice people that I can call on the one two weekends a month that dh and I both have to work.

My ad specifically says weekends only, from 9-5, my city and general neighborhood, no home daycares, someone who will come to my home, and not bring any additional children with her. I also gave the ages of my children, and the hourly rate I am willing to pay.

I have had plenty of responses - from women who live 70 miles away, want me to come to their house, or want to bring their own children to mine. Or people calling to tell me that they run a home daycare and their hours are 7:30 to 6 Monday through Friday, which they know was not what I said in my ad, but just in case I am interested. And how old are my kids and what is they pay? (Even though the ad says that).

The good news is, it is easy to weed out the ones who obviously cannot read.

But I am running out of polite ways to turn these women down. I caught myself almost emailing "thanks so much for your response but since you are completely the opposite of what I advertised for, I am not going to be calling you."

Is Student-sitters.com in your area? I've hired three college students, and all have been beyond fantabulous. (Of course, because it's short hours and at o'dark hundred in the morning (7 to 8:20 am) I pay really really well!) I highly recommend them!

How old are your children? It could be that there are just not a lot of people who do that kind of weekend care, even though it seems that you should be able to get some college or high school students, depending on the ages of your kids.

i always see postings for babysitting at my college..u could try a local campus?
or if your children go to a day care center, ask the teachers..thats how i get all my babysitting jobs and why i still babysit when im 21!
