Hey all! I greatly appreciated all the wonderful tips on our upcoming trip (to England), I thought y'all might help me with this one...In planning this trip I have had the great pleasure of making some really cool pals who have helped and we want to meet up while in London/Oxfordshire...I was trying to think of some things that are unique to our home state (Alabama) that might be fun as gifts..or if I'm missing some things...

1. Peach preserves
2. White barbecue sauce (awesome on chicken)
3. Pecan pies
4. Moon pies (I really don't like these but it's a southern made junk food item and easy to pack...has a marshmallow center)
5. Dolly Parton CD :charac2:
6. Carrie Underwood CD (my daughter loves her)
7. Bluegrass band CD
8. Hushpuppie mix

I just want some fun things to offer as tokens of my appreciation, thanks for the help! The second half of our 10 day tour we'll have a full kitchen and I thought of bringing the goods to make a chocolate chess pie or pecan pie..didn't know if y'all had those types there...or a pound cake....possibly a blackberry cobbler?
Thanks!

Tara

Fried green tomatoes? Could be a bit tricky to transport! :teeth:

Doesn't Alabama grow peanuts? I love American peanut butter - it's creamier than the claggy stuff we get here.

I love pecan pie and all kinds of fruit cobbler. I haven't heard of chocolate chess pie, but it sounds good!

I'm a Carrie Underwood fan, too. I've been listening to her a lot recently.

I'd love to bring fried green tomatoes...I'll have over 100 tomatoes by then...guess I fertilized too much! I can salsa...I guess I could can some green tomatoes...but not sure it would hold well for frying. Neat point about the peanut butter...never figured that it would be different over here..that's a good idea. Chocolate chess pie is just like chess pie (pretty much butter sugar eggs and vanilla...sounds weird but tastes WONDERFUL) with chocolate.

Thanks! Keep the tips coming...I'm taking my youngest to see Carrie this weekend....it should be a hoot...she's 7 and sings like a crow...but she belts it out as loud as she can! :)

Hi Tara :) !

I think they will appreciate anything that you can get uniquely local to your state - maybe T-shirts or caps with a logo : maybe a famous local sport coonection? Sorry! I don't know if you have a strong football/baseball or basketball team perhaps? Or something non-food that your state is known for?

The pecan pie is a great idea, and peanut butter is a good suggestion too!

Just wondering about Carrie Underwood - do you know if they like her music? It isn't really something a lot of UK people go for.

That said, I'm sure they'll be highly appreciative of anything you bring - you are obviously putting a lof of thought into it, and that always shows through :)

If it were for me I would like, Oreos, any type of USA candy bars, Cheese Danishes. Anything authentic from your town, a picture postcard or something. Bluegrass band CD sounds good. :thumbsup2 And you could cook me some BBQ chicken and some biscuits and gravy!!! ;)
