Trying to Decide if Disneyland Hotel is best...

Yep, no more "Molly's going to have a heart attack watching all those children standing on tiny balconies" balconies. I'm happy about it! Can you tell? :upsidedow

I just saw on Facebook this weekend that they are keeping the balconies on the top floor of the Wonder tower. This was posted on the “Save the Disneyland Hotel Waterfalls” page, so I’m not sure where they got the information. It will be interesting to see if it turns out to be true or not.

I love the balconies, but probably not enough to pay extra for a higher floor just to have one.

Several times I saw him look longingly at the GCH entrance as we walked by on our way to the DLH.

Haha! We looked longingly at the GCH a few times as we passed it too

Mr Grumpypants (DH) is quite insistent we stay at the DLH. I think it's because as a child he went 6 times and always stayed a cheap motel far away and always had his heart set on the DLH.
I've read there's a blog somewhere...anyone know about that?

That's one of the reasons I wanted to stay at DLH too! Because we always had to stay at a cheap motel when I was a kid. We did stay at DLH once, when the monorail station was still at the hotel and I loved it, but my parents didn't think it was worth the extra $
For our trip this June, we cut our food and souvenir budget WAY back to be able to stay at DLH and we thought it was totally worth it!

it's not as bad as some of the tripadvisor reports say. I think you'll have a great time - we always have! Stay tuned here for updates from people as they stay there - closer to your trip dates you'll get a good idea of what's going on.

I think the reviewers on TripAdvisor are grumps! I would go with the opinions of fellow Disney lovers instead. :goodvibes
There is a Disney blog, which I am subscribed to http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/
however I think you get a lot better and more detailed information here on DISboards. But, the blog is fun and has pretty pictures :); you just don't always get the details that you're looking for. Whenever something significant is posted on the blog someone usually posts it here anyway.

I know your heart is set on the DLH, but I would HIGHLY recommend staying at the Grand Californian. My Aunt just took a trip down to DL (without me.....*tear*) with her buddies, and they all stayed at the Grand Californian and LOVED it! The walk to either park is so short that it's basically non-existant. Plus, the hotel itself was supposedly the best DL had to offer.

Thanks for all the advice, guys!

I think we'll stick with planning on staying at the DLH. I am sure I would like the GCH much more, but if hubby wants to stay at DLH and that makes him less grumpy about the trip, that's what we'll do!

If any of you are planning on visiting in the next several months, I'd appreciate an update on the construction at DLH, if you happen to hear/see anything while you're there.

Thanks again!

I'd try for a renovated room, unless you really want a balcony. To me the older rooms feel a bit dated.
