Trying to buy 25 pts direct from Disney at BCV

They'll let you bank the first year's 25 points regardless of that cutoff. No need to worry about that.
It is contractually written into the POS that one can do this.

It's a nonsense they cannot sell 25 points and have closed the wait list. They could ROFR any being sold now , split it up and sell it in 25pt chunks. They are probably been obstructive on purpose. I think too many are buying 25pt to get perks, they may increase it.
It would be their choice as to the minimum they could sell and not our place to tell them what they can/can't or should/shouldn't do. We can vote with out feet/$$$. The profit on buying back and selling sold out resorts at the current levels is likely non existent. While it's "free money" it's also in direct competition with their retail product. That a given person says they would or would not do in that situation is irrelevant and meaningless unless enough people back it up with their $$$ choices. They likely should increase it or at least not allow contacts under 50 to become qualified.

What they told me was they have points with an April use year but they are assigned to different buildings at BCV. They have one building with 10pts, one building with 8pts and one building with 5pts available and they cannot combine different buildings to get to the 25 point minimum. Not sure how true this is but two different guides confirmed the 10 and 8 point availabilities at different buildings. The second guide also confirmed that exceptions are sometimes granted for less than 25 points but a supervisor would need to grant it.

Not saying they should do it, but if there is an exception process, it strikes me as odd that some can get the exception and others cannot. I suspect those that bought direct are more likely to get the exceptions granted.
I have heard of them doing this before in exactly this situation. But keep trying, it'll pull together sooner rather than later.

I'm thinking about asking them if they have 25 pts available with an April use year at Grand Floridian as well. I figure that if I ever decide to sell, the VGF small contract will hold it's value better than say Boardwalk which is selling direct for $20 less a point.

Does that sound like a sound strategy?

25 points at VGF doesn't get you much, might want to up it to 50 points that way you could get a standard studio for a few nights. Also, be prepared to wait for VGF points, we have been waitlisted for over a month and a half now for a FEB UY contract for 50 points. Not sure how long the other resorts will take.

I have been pretty lucky with booking Grand Floridian 1 BDRM in April at the seven month mark so I don't think I need more than the 25 points to add to my 250 pts at BCV.

This is more about getting the direct buy benefits and having a good property like Grand Floridian to sell in the secondary market if we decide in 10 years we want out.

Not sure if that is a good way to go about things or simply add on 25 pts at Saratoga Springs or OKW as the points are cheaper and if I am booking at 7 months anyway, it doesn't make much difference.

If you don't care what resort you get the 25 points in, then I would just call up your guide and see what resorts they had points in your UY in. I would go with SSR over OKW because of the end date on the contract. Make sure to keep the same UY though, that way at the 7 month mark you can use them however you want.

OKW ends in 2057 for a contract purchased directly.

I spoke to a supervisor at Disney and they agreed to add me to a waitlist for BCV even though they don't officially have one any longer. I will give it a month or two to see if they can come through and if they don't I'll look to grab another property with an April use year. The waiting begins.

Curious -- I know you already have VGF via resale -- so why not just get 25 points? Did you run out of points already? (like someone else I know) :rolleyes1

Well of course after my sister heard how nice a trip we had in 2017 with my folks, her and my niece wanted to tag along for our 2018 trip........ so we needed a 50 point add-on for a studio for her.

Also, we made the classic rookie DVC mistake of buying the wrong UY and our now trying to get a February UY.

haha...You're generous.

I only provide free rent for the GPs. My sisters will have to pay for room & board if they want to come.

If you only need the points for a one time trip -- have you considered transferring in some VGF points? Depending on the time of year, you might just need SSR points.

Buy a Feb UY with enough points and sell the one you have, the difference isn't any more than adding the number you need and it may be cheaper. Or you could put your sister in touch with someone so she could rent rather than you funding her vacation.

I tried that Bill but I was told the waitlist have been closed for Beach Club, Grand Floridian and Grand Californian. They said it is because these are small resorts from an availability standpoint and points are rarely available.
Just keep calling - I had to do that for VGF and BC. Eventually - Disney will have the points as they ROFR contracts.

I think you should be okay Skippy. I have heard that buying direct, Disney allows exceptions to the cutoff dates for banking and will work with you to make it happen.
Yup

Oh my sister is "renting" our points for this trip, and is helping fund our expansion into our VGF February UY. Our goal is to eventually end up with between 400-500 points with a February UY. We bought a 150 VGF June UY and a 110 AKV March UY contracts in 2016 that were fully loaded and allowed us an awesome 2017 VGF/AKV 6 night vacation with my folks in 2 bedrooms at both resorts. Of course after staying at VGF we were spoiled and decided it was best to just have VGF points..... with a February UY due to kids school schedules (We might have missed the section of best UY's when we first started looking into DVC resales). So the new DVC plan is to strip and sell our AKV contract after our 2018 trip and buy more VGF, then strip the June UY VGF and hopefully we will be near our goal for points. Funny thing is that our AKV contract is worth more after only 1 year after we bought it........ and getting 2 great vacations out of it.

Awesome plan. I would strip as much now and sell ASAP while you can. Just transfer the points to your VGF contract. At least I think that will work.

You should come out quite a bit ahead on that one, even after the commissions.

I actually saw a 500 point VGF contract recently. Don't remember the UY though. You could sell everything and get that one likely for about $120-$125 a point.

Unfortunately the AKV points are a combination of current, banked and borrowed points, so can't really transfer all the points. We are using them currently for a 2 bedroom at Jambo with hopes of transferring to BCV at the 7 month mark in September. I'm still on the fence about selling the contract instead of just renting the AKV points.

That's too bad. You could still list now with a can't close by date for next September. Haha

Our 2018 trip is in April, if we do sell we might list it in March.....

Not a bad idea. We love Grand Floridian too....if we strip our BCV contract and sell it just prior to our trip in April we can look for an April use year Grand Floridian contract to replace it.
