Trying to book online with disney and they are charging £16 card surcharge??

But don't want to pay by credit card - cant see an option to remove this charge and pay by debit card with no fee!?

There is a £16 flat fee. Either way you pay - not much way round it, even have to pay it over the telephone. Bit of a rip off.... I think some people have booked and sent in a cheque but it seems a faff and not even sure they offer it anymore.

That's a massive rip off!! Would love to know what the £16 was for!

You could try calling to book and see if they can let you send a cheque. I have heard it done but not recently. Fee has always been charged - well for the years I know of anyway. Used to be £10 when we first started going, it's gone up each year to the now £16! Only good thing is it's per booking, not per room, so we are going in Nov/Dec and have 2 rooms at the DLH booked, but because we did a combined booking, only 1 charge.

Are you wanting to get Quidco cashback and that is why booking online? Don't forget, if you book by phone you can pay a 15% (think) deposit and balance 60 days before. Might be easier on your pocket? We have always paid in one but this trip we didn't as we had two trips to fund (June & Nov) so decided to pay deposit on Nov. Glad we did as we were allowed to change our offer just before the balance was due to a cheaper offer - saved almost £300! If we had paid in full, online, the CM indicated it might not have been so straightforward amending it for that kind of money/refund..... Just a thought.

As you're booking for next year I'd be inclined to agree with DLPDreams about booking over the phone, that way if a better offer comes along you'll have the opportunity to make use of it.

Thanks for explaining things. Really think its a disgusting amount to charge on top of an already expensive holiday but seems I'm just going to have to pay it.
Yes I wanted to book online because of the cash back, will still get £20 back in addition to the booking fee so not so bad when you look at it that way.
Good point re just paying a deposit in see a better deal comes along, but for once I actually have the money to pay in full so I don't spend it on other things or. Christmas. Will just have to take the chance that it doesn't work out cheaper at a later date. It's costing £640 for 4 nights/5 days at the SL in June which people have said is a good price already? (First trip)

Wouldn't mind if it said card fee but it doesn't it says credit card.

I wonder if that's because in France there is no real difference between a debit card and a credit card

A payment with a debit card is taken out of your account immediately and with a credit card you can have a maximum of 40 days "credit" depending on when in the month you buy before the amount is taken out in full from your account.

What do they say when you ask them about it ? Anybody tried ?

I do think its a little misleading as it states credit card charge but its like most companies that charge you now to pay for holidays using credit cards and a lot are jumping on the bandwagon and charging for debit card use. I think when we booked with the French deal we paid slightly less as it was €.

Not sure about them being outlawed, I think they have to be upfront with them & not hiding them like Ryan air, Easy Jet have done in the past.

It may mean they will switch to the 2.5% processing fee which is what companies are charged to accept credit cards.

Having said that £16 is about right for a £600 trip

Topcashback usually have good rates and DLP often have promotions where they offer more cashback than usual. I got about £80 cashback from our last trip!

Not sure exactly but taking easyjet for example, I used to have to pay £8 each booking for paying by debit card but of course you only found out about this right at the end. Not sure if it was the EU or just consumer groups campaigning but everyone cheers when they announce that such charges are to be outlawed.

I now have to pay easyjet a £9 'booking fee' every time I book, I just know about it up front. Great.

I look at from the point of view whoever it is you are booking with have to make £x for your booking and will reach that figure one way or another

I booked mine yesterday using quidco - current cash back rate is 2% higher than top cash back, so will receive £36 back
