Trying something a little different this summer

We've been going to Disney for about 10 years now-stayed at some of the DVC-have not stayed at Poly, (want at least 1 bedroom), Grand Floridian or Riviera. We rent points-we love BLT for the convenience of MK, and the 2 baths. Our 2nd choice would probably be Boardwalk. Trying to change it up a little this summer-we usually go for about 12 nights-splitting between Disney and Universal. This year we're going to skip Universal, and thought to stay at HGVC at Seaworld, and do Seaworld and Discovery Cove. Anyway, want to spend about a week at Disney. This past Oct. the lines were long in the parks. HS we got on 1 ride. With the parks feeling more crowded, of course hopefully this August it will be better. My thought is maybe staying at Saratoga in a preferred 2 bedroom-thought maybe since we won't spend longer days in the park, being close to DS would be nice. We do seem to spend quite a bit of time at DS, for shopping, and eating. Also nice to be able to have a drink and not have to be concerened about driving. Want to still go to Disney, but trying to change it up a bit, if that makes sense! Any thoughts? We're in our 50's, and our son who is 26 is going as well. Thanks.

If, as you said, you're using points, be aware that there are no 1 BRs at the Poly, only studios and over the water bungalows (lots of points)

That's why we haven't stayed at the Poly, don't want a studio. I guess it's what I've seen before on the boards, do you stick with your old reliable (BLT), or try something new? I guess you're always afraid to try something new, then regret not staying at Bay Lake. Or of course, could try something new and love it! Maybe I have too much time on my hands to think about it, lol! I think we go through this every year!

A preferred two bedroom at SSR would be different, and probably very nice for you. Since they have been refurbished, you should be happy with the accommodations. You don’t always get a Villa a Congress Park that faces Disney Springs, but if you do, it’s a great view. I like the pool at CP, it’s big enough and deep enough for me to enjoy swimming. If you want a slide, then you will go to either main pool or Paddock.

Do something new, for sure! I wouldn't be worried about not liking it as much as your "old reliable (BLT)". You will be at DW, so you are going to have a great time no matter what. And if you do stay at SSR you will have DS at your fingertips, so there will always be something to do. Another thought, since you are going in summer, is to stay at BCV since it has the best pool. If the lines at the parks are indeed long you can just head back to the pool. No matter what you do, you can't really go wrong. My wife and I want to eventually spend at least one stay in every resort, just so we can 1) say we did it and 2) be able to compare each resort from first hand experience. Good luck!

With the preferred buildings at SSR being recently refurbished now is definitely the time to try something new! If you spend a lot of time at Disney Springs, SSR is perfect for a quick walk over. Put in a request for Congress Park and enjoy!

I love the quiet pool at SSR. Beautiful and very relaxing. Would be nice to spend time there chilling with a beverage or two in lieu of park time. Especially in August.

thanks all!! Now we're throwing in a 2 bedroom at BW into the mix! Haven't stayed there in a while though-thought having the skyliner near might be fun to-hop on and check out the other resorts. thanks everyone for your thoughts!!

If you can get a 2br at BWV, that would be my vote. We enjoyed being able to take the skyliner over to RR for dinner one night. I also just enjoy riding the skyliner for fun, so in addition to all of the other conveniences of the BW area, this is one more thing I love about it.

However, if you can't get the 2br at BWV, the 2br at SSR would also be an excellent choice if you can get a preferred view and get in Congress Park. I love being in that area and so close to DS.

I second this.
DS view is the most underrated view in all the DVC system (in the most underrated DVC resort). I would say it's not a common request, so it could have a good chance to be granted.

SSR if not in walking distance to any park, but it's centrally located so not too far from any. BLT has an amazing location for the MK, but the trip to the other parks takes forever. It has 2 feature pools, 2 (I think) quiet pool. You can easily pool hop to OKW. And walk to DS, that is really amazing. With all the new restaurants, the value of being able to boat or walk to DS has really increased.
And the new rooms are amazing as well. The bed in the living room is a real (pull down) bed, not a sofa bed. Who tried it said it is really comfortable. So maybe you could book a 1BR and save some point? Both preferred sections are already refurbished, so you have a 100% chance to get a new room (and by the summer, probably all standard as well).

thanks everyone! I booked the vacation this weekend-3 nights at Bay Lake, then 5 nights at SSR in a preferred 2 bedroom. SSR with the new rooms, and walking to DS was the deciding factor, we do spend quite a bit of time at DS-I guess we do a lot of eating and shopping ( and a little drinking, lol).
