"Trying" all Resorts?

My husband recently went back to school and will be finished in 2007. We decided that when he is done with school (and working again...he's going to be a Physician Assistant!) that we will buy into DVC. For now, we are on a mission to try all DVC resorts to "test" them out before we purchase. We recently rented points for BWV for this December and can't wait to start our own little experiment!

Has anyone else done this before buying into DVC or did you always know what resort you want to buy as your home resort? What do you think?

DH and I toured OKW in '95 but did not purchase DVC until '99.
At the time, we weren't aware of resales, and the only place we could purchase directly through Disney was BWV. Ended up very happy though. We love that location the best.
As far as renting points for the next 4 years, I agree that the opportunity to try all the resorts before you buy is a great one. However, we found that when financing DVC, your montly payments are usually just about the same as paying someone to rent the points.
Why wait to buy your points? The price will per point will be higher than it is right now, plus you will have less time to use the membership. All ownership in DVC resorts expires in 2042.
Maybe you cannot financially afford the purchase right now, but I just wanted to give you something to think about.

We were in WDW the second time and at CBR when we saw the DVC booth. It was about almost a year latter before we bought BWV. Since then we had another child, and used the points for a cruise, WDW, other vacation locations. I would say if you can swing it, get it now as MickeyCrazed mentioned.

A coupl of factors to consider, you may buy a particular home resort, but you can still use the other DVC resorts and you shopuld have not problems unless you have to go during peak seasons. I do not know what the re-sell market is like, but I think you can only buy DVC at the resort that they are selling. I think right now is the Beach Villa

We have been DVC members since '00, and had never stayed in a DVC room until after our purchase. At the time we had no idea about renting, but we were at WL for our 25th anniversary, and they were just finishing the Villas there.

Since then we have done 2 add-ons, so we are now at 500 points per year. I frankly wish that we had just bought the full 500 in '00 so our price per point would be lower. The price only goes up over time.

I agree with the prior poster - if you can swing it now, and will be visiting WDW every year anyway, buy your DVC now instead of renting and waiting.

We have NEVER regretted it.

I think it's probably a good idea to try all the DVC resorts before you buy. After you do buy, you'll undoubtably wish you'd bought sooner and not spent the money renting, but many of us wish we'd bought sooner. However, I also wish we'd tried out the different DVC resorts first. Because we'd loved WL, we expected to love VWL and weren't sorry it was all that was being sold by Disney when we'd bought. But after we became members, we tried OKW for the first time, and now DH wishes we'd bought resale there-we went to VWL and have no desire to return. So I, for one, wish we'd tried the resorts first and think it's a great idea for anyone who can to do that.
