I just reserved a mid-size for a trip to LA for $17.07 a day -- much cheaper than any rate I could get anywhere else. I even tried Priceline but they rejected my bid for $17 a day. The good thing about www.hotwire.com is that you know the exact amount you'll be charged, including all taxes, before you decide to buy.

I've heard the same thing about Hotwire in some cities. Coincidentally, Los Angeles was one. Nashville was another. I've also received reports where Priceline has beaten Hotwire (most recently in Oakland, CA), so it could still be to your advantage to try Priceline. I haven't heard of any Hotwire examples for Orlando but will post on these boards if I do.

Does anyone else but me get a giggle at the thought of getting a car from a site called "hotwire"? I'm surprised they're not using that in their ad campaigns...."The one time when hotwiring a car won't get you arrested!" LOL

Sis-boom-baaaaaa!

I wanna go back to the SwanDolphin! I wanna, I wanna, I wanna!

I got a decent price for a full-size car through hotwire last night. I have been dickering with Priceline for over a month now and couldn't get any of the wonderful prices I've seen on here. I *did* get a full-size for $26/day through hotwire and that beat the $25/day I was going to be paying Dollar for a compact. I have tried expedia and travelocity and this was the best I felt I was going to be able to do without spending hours more on this. And with a growing teen-age son and DH, I think we'll be happy to have the extra room for $2/day more!! The rental is through Hertz -- not exactly a no-name!!

This post was on another DIS board. I used it and booked an SUV much cheaper than anyone else could offer.
The only downside I found is that my credit card is already charged for this rental. Not that big of an issue, but I just wanted to make everyone aware of this.
And my rental is through Budget.

:) Glad I looked into hotwire.com for car rental rates. Traveling to WDW in May and booked a rate of $169.73/wk total for a full size car through Hertz.
The rates were cheaper than from travelocity or expedia travel. Lowest rate quoted was through Budget for a midsize car for $161.25/week (taxes and fees additional).

Happy to have gone with hotwire.com These boards offer a wealth of info.

Yes...hotwire does charge your card immediately...but that's as Priceline does too....and they very explicitly state that on their website as you go through the reservation process...I'm very pleased with the rate I got -- inclusive of ALL charges, taxes, fees, etc......hopefully all will go smoothly when we get to MCO on Thursday night!! :D

but the great part of your card being charged is that when you go its already paid for! and yes hotwire is very good and I have found many great deals on them especially air for a lot of people.it has been much better then priceline. that would be a good ad campaign! ahahaha

Exactly how does this website work...Do you bid or do you provide the dates and type of service that you require and then get a chance to reject the prices if it does not fit your needs. Also, does anyone ever get back any car rental offers for in-terminal companies? Thanks in advance.

baileybrad,
To use the website, you make up a username and password in order to do a search and should gain immediate access. Then you type in the your information for a search on rental car; they also do flights and hotels. They give you their best rates at that time you put in your search. You only have 30 minutes to decide to accept the rates shown or not. Total amount is shown before you accept. Once the 30 minutes are expired, you are locked out of doing the same search for 72 hours.
*Suggest knowing car rental rates offered elsewhere before trying hotwire so you know if you're getting a great deal.*
If you accept an offer, then you will find out the name of the rental car company. They will send you a confirmation number on the transaction.

I saw a post above that got one with Budget through Hotwire. Believe that's onsite at the airport.
