Try not to book Egypt in the summer...

My 20 something daughter and friend went to Egypt last summer, and while they loved the trip, it was triple digits every day. Add higher temps while you're exploring the pyramids, as you have to descend narrow passageways, and cannot turn around until your whole group is down. My daughter said a few people got heat sickness. Some of the places you visit, the women cannot wear sleeveless tops or even short sleeves out of respect to the culture. I have a huge photo of her in long sleeves on a camel!! Temp. was 100.

That being said, I want to go - just not June, July, and August.

yes - we've done it three times (spetember october!) and I live in the tropics and yet we were still not prepared for the incredible heat - beyond description.
Having said that our trips were all planned so they took place very early morning - some were a 6.30am start just to avoid the heat. I don't know if Disney have those plans

I agree we have been to egypt three times and even though we live in the tropics we felt the heat was something else.
Our tours started very early - some even at 6.30am to make sure we missed as much heat as possible but I am not sure that Disney are doing that.
For this very reason I am also a little surprised that Disney has put the reccommended age as 6years old. The heat is the one reason we are delaying this trip for our son. He is 8 next year well travelled (doing ABD Peru!!) but I do not feel ready for the trips in that heat yet. It adds a completely different dimension to a tour if you have to struggle in those temepratures.

So do their seasons match ours? Is it best to go in the Fall/Spring months? Any suggestions?

Yes, their seasons match ours, for the most part, except it's desert, so you get a lot more of the extremes (extreme heat & extreme cold). (Well, actually, the extreme cold would be only *relatively* cold. It's got nothing on Maryland!).

So I would imagine Fall/Spring would be better than Summer.

FWIW, long sleeves in extreme heat is actually a good thing. With the appropriate, sun-reflecting clothing, you will actually be more comfortable in long sleeves. The Sun Precautions catalog is an excellent source for this kind of clothing. It's all a question of protecting your skin, acclimating your body and staying hydrated.

Glendamax! What are you doing over here on the ABD boards? I've been following your beautiful hair journey all year on the Community board! Are you signing up for an ABD?

LOL! I'd just priced going to Egypt about a month ago through Expedia, but then remembered about Disney Adventures. I want to go to Hawaii first, then Egypt. Glad I saw this thread, so I can figure out when to go!

(P.S. Thanks for following my hair thread!)

I was there in November and it was 108 at the pyramids-we were there before noon. I would not recommend those temps for the elderly, young or out of condition. It is exhausting.

108!!!! That's inhuman!

It was higher than that a couple of weeks ago when we were at Magic Kingdom.

We were in Egypt in May and the temperature was fine, it was warm, but not miserable - low 80's. I would NOT plan to visit from June - October.

Was it a dry heat? :lmao: I always love that one. It was 108, but a dry heat....it was still 108!!!! Anyway, there is some truth to that. A less humid 108 is actually more comfortable than a humid 90. You just have to drink lots and lots of water. In dry heat, by the time you realize you're thirsty, it's too late, you're dehydrated.

At least my hair looks good in dry heat! I'll be passed out in the shade of a pyramid, looking fabulous :rotfl:

You are TOO funny! :lmao: This thread has turned into a comedy sketch!

carolinatennisgirl - Thanks for your suggestion. I guess the top part of the year would be a good time to aim for.

I've booked the Egypt 7 night on 12/27/11 after reading about the summer.

Well, actually--wasn't so worried about the heat--but life interfers, this time in a good way. So we cancelled our June 2011 trip to Eygpt (my older son is getting married then, he just announced!)--and are going back to our original plan for 2011: Peru! We'll have to live this trip through your detailed reports, and hopefully catch it at xmas 2012.

I'm going with Lindblad/National Geographic in 4 months and they don't even do summer tours there. They have sent me a great informative packet with average temps. It says that Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel are 15 degrees warmer than Cairo so if it's 100 at the pyramids, that means 115 at these other places. :scared1:

Average Cairo temps I was provided:

October-November: 84
December-February: 78
March-April: 91
