Our church is hosting a trunk or treat this year and the theme is 80's. I am not a creative person but I was born in 1980 so I feel like I should contribute to the fun. I need some ideas to help me focus. I really want to do an 80s sports theme...what would that look like to you? DH and I both love sports. We have a truck we can set stuff up in the bed of the truck, otherwise we can use our Expedition. I just don't really know where to get started. We don't want to spend much money and we have plenty of sports gear here at home, I just don't know how to make it 80's themed? Or should I ditch that idea and go with something like Mario Bros, Nintendo, etc?

Any and all ideas are welcome! Thank you!

What does the trunk part mean? A costume?

The trunk represents the trunk of a car...people open up their trunks and decorate them and then they sit around their trunks and pass out candy. Local families will stop by and go to all the "trunks" and load up on candy the weekend before Halloween. Does that make sense?

That's easy...wellllll for me. BTDT :D.

Wrestler type top with an undershirt and either tight gym shorts atop leggings or mini skirt. Hair must be curled and moussed within an inch of it's life w/ shorter sides and you can even wear a sweatband w/ it Easy to pull off with a cheap wig:rotfl.

A cropped top t shirt with shoulder pads could work too. Skin wasn't shown much but form was. Socks or leg warmers bunched around the ankle or neatly rolled there with lots of fabric.
Make up should be heavy on the eyes and blush should look like streaks of a darker shade on top and lighter color directly under. You can find many versions by watching youtube vids from that time or googling something like "'80's active wear".

Do you have a 5 below? I just made a great 80’s candy basket, they have tons.

I've never seen a trunk or treat with a decorating theme, how cool! How about bright neon accessories, terry cloth headbands and wristbands, teased hair, tube socks with stripes, leg warmers.

At my church, a lot of cars will make a little game or craft for the kids to do. You could make a sports goal for the kids to throw a basketball/football/etc., whatever sport you decide to go with and decorate it with neon puffy paint and shine a blacklight on it all so that everything glows. I don't know if you have an Aldi near you but I've had luck finding large sheets of cardboard there (they are used on the pallets of bottled water, to separate the layers) and you could use that to construct a goal.

We do have a 5 Below! Do you mean they have candy from the 80s that you bought to pass out? I kind of like the 80s candy theme...we could make some candybar type signs to hang up and then pass out that kind of candy too.

I might be switching from my original sports theme idea...

A little game would be fun! We do have a portable standup basketball goal we could put in the bed of the truck! Good ideas!

I love trunk or treating! I love the idea of 80's exercise clothes! Ask around and see how many kids to expect. The first year we did it, we made 125 candy bags and ran out. The next year we did 300 and had enough.

Yes, sugar babies, snow caps, Charleston chew, lik em sticks, plus a lot of 80’ t shirts (I got an MTV one, Star Wars and Thriller). Ring pops, push up pops, whoppers, they have a lot.
