Well, after using CSA Travel for insurance on our 6/01 cruise, I decided to check their website for insurance for our 6/03 cruise..got a quote of $298 for 4 of us for the 7 day eastern. Had some specific questions, so I called and I received a return call today from a women who said they "really don't cover cruises anymore, that since 9/11, they have cut back their business and they are beginning to get business back up". This sounded very strange, and when I mentioned that I had gotten a quote on line from them, she said to make sure the end $$ was the same as the original as sometimes the original amount goes up at the end of your quote. WHAT????? All this has me feeling very uneasy about booking insurance with CSA again...have any of you used other companies (other than Disney..) for insurance, and were you comfortable with the service you got?? With CSA last year, I was able to purchase the insurance up to the day before we traveled...I wound up purchasing it right after I made our final payment. I booked our cruise a few months ago, so I hope I have not dug myself in a hole now. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks so much!!

They were about 35 more than CSA but they also have coverage if we are GOD FORBID involved in any accidents while driving down to florida and have to cancel the cruise. Hopefully its something I wont need but its a nice feeling to know I have it. Plus the fact that I can contact my local AAA office with any issues.

I just checked with my medical insurance co. (Geisinger) and they told me I will be completely covered for any medical expenses, so I really just need trip cancellation insurance...all policies seem to also have some medical coverage..is it possible to get JUST trip cancellation insurance???

Jobro2...Do they also cover medical evacuation (being airlifted off the ship) if you needed it.

Very rare, but something we all should be covered for.

Yes they do...I specifically asked if a helicopter needed to take me off would I be covered and they said yes...has anyone used Travelex Insurance? I went to Insuremytrip.com and got a bunch of quotes from different companies, and Travelex gave me $199 for our trip...sounds really good, but I haven't heard of them...anyone know??

I don't know if I would bother with trip insurance if I was covered for all medical issues. If you have to cancel up to the day of, you wouldn't get a refund, but you could apply it to another cruise, so you wouldn't lose your money there. As far as anything happening that you would have to come home for, I think I may take my chances.

Barb...Do you take insurance every time you sail?

We have always just had more peace of mind getting insurance...with 2 kids, you never know when something will happen with them..also, having older parents myself, you, unfortunately, never know when something could happen with them. I was under the impression if we had to cancel last minute, we were out the money, that it could not be applied to another cruise...maybe I misunderstood??? Does anyone know for sure what the deal is on cancelling at the last minute?? For the amount of $$ the cruise cost us, another $200 for peace of mind is well worth it for us....

Cancellations/Refunds

Cancellations must be made by telephone or in writing. Changes to the vacation commencement date or changes of Guest names will be considered cancellations.

If the cancellation request is received 60 or more days prior to the vacation commencement date, 100% of the amount of the vacation price paid will be refunded. Cancellation requests received less than 60 days prior to the vacation commencement date will be assessed cancellation fees as follows, regardless of resale of stateroom or hotel room:

• 59-30 days prior to vacation commencement date, applicable deposit per Guest.
• 29-8 days prior to vacation commencement date, 50% of vacation fare per Guest
• 7 days or less prior to vacation commencement date, no refund

No refunds will be made in the event of interruption or cancellation by the Guest after vacation commencement date. All appropriate refunds will be made directly to the Guest's credit card account or through the Guest's travel agent if the reservation is made through a travel agent. Disney Cruise Vacations is not responsible for the receipt of refund moneys by Guests from their travel agents. All travel documents including airline tickets must be returned before refund processing can begin. Certain travel agents may withhold an agency cancellation fee. For your peace of mind, we recommend the purchase of Disney Cruise Vacations Protection Plan.

Please note that changes made to overall party size may result in a change to the rate.

Ruvidu...That is for refunds. When we booked last year for the 5/11 the cast member stated the exact policy you quoted above BUT when I asked do youlose the money is when she stated that it will be applied to future cruises LESS a rebooking fee of I think $25-50 per person. I can't remember the exact amount. I take insurance before the 60 days so I really didn't pay too much attention to the fee quoted.

Anyone else ask that question from DCL?

Why don't you try the company that covers your homeowners and/or auto insurance? I think State Farm has a pretty decent travel coverage package. BTW, why not use the DCL insurance? Have you had a problem?

THanks-
Erin

That's a good idea to try State Farm..we have all our insurance with them...I never even thought of that! Well, I talked with Donna at Dreams today, and she spoke with DCL and they told her if we had to cancel due to an emergency at the last minute, we could apply all the $$ we paid to the cruise towards another one, plus a $25/per person re-booking fee. The re-booking fee is cheaper than the insurance would be for us. You would also be responsible when rebooking, for any increase in price for the new cruise. The way I see it, either way, if we have insurance or not, and we had to cancel at the last minute, we would rebook either way. And either way, insurance or not, we would be responsible for any increase in cruise price for the new cruise. I guess the only thing insurance would cover would be trip interruption, other than that, my medical covers all medical expenses...gee, guess I have some thinking to do this trip. By the way, as far as purchasing insurance directly from DCL, I have heard on the news it is alway better NOT to purchase trip insurance directly from the company your trip is with....I will call State Farm though and see what they say! Thanks!

We have always been told in the past that we would lose our money if we canceled. That is the reason I posted the Cancellation/Refund copy.
With that in mind I know I don't need any extra insurance.
Thanks for the update.
