Trouble w/ Travelocity

Oh gosh, I'm hopping someone can help. I booked 4 tickets from Flint to MCO this morning on Travelocity. Everything went through, got my confirming email and trip ID number. Good, done with the airfare so I thought. I just received a call from a travelocity rep saying that my reservation was canceled! Looks like it's sold out, she says. She then suggests that I go back online and rebook the flight. How can I if it's sold out?!!! I call Discover to see if the charges went through and find out they have. I then go on travelocity to check out my flights and it says they have been canceled. But now to rebook the same flights are $300 more total! So they did not sell out, the price just went up! I don't see how they can do this. My reservation was confirmed and my credit card charged. I'm thinking I need to speak with a supervisor, or am I just wasting my breath?

First, call Discover, tell them the problem, have them reverse the charge. Then, go directly to the airline's website and book them there.

OMG! I would be furious! When the rep told you "sold out," she meant the fare that you booked was sold out, not the plane. However, if they confirm your reservation, you should not have to worry about them coming back and canceling your reservation!

Definitely call and ask to speak to a supervisor. If you get no where, have them credit your card and book elsewhere. Check to make sure they have credited your card, otherwise reverse the charges.

Good luck,
Peggy

I take it you did a print screen or otherwise got a hard copy of everything about the ressie so far. I take it you already have a confirming email showing the flight dates and times, flight numbers, fare, names of persons traveling, and so on.

FIrst thing to do now is go back into Travelocity and see what the ressie looks like as seen on their website. The ressie either still exists or does not exist. Print out everything again as it stands now and write the current time and date on these papers with your own handwriting.

You could see one of three things:
1. The ressie is still intact at the fare you expected.
2. The ressie is gone.
3. The ressie is still there but showing a higher price.

If the ressie is still there at the original fare I would sit tight for a few days but check it again and print it and manually date it again every day. Press the refresh button every now and then just to be sure you are getting the latest information from Travelocity as opposed to displaying an old saved (cached) image from your computer hard drive. After a few days try to change seat assignments just to stimulate their system into doing something. Call the airline itself asking for a written confirmation which they generally send even for electronic tickets.

If the ressie was cancelled do a print screen also. You should have no problem getting a full refund. Work along the assumption that they cancelled it and not you.

If the ressie is there but showing a higher fare, immediately call them and tell them to either put back the fare showing on your yesterday's printout, or cancel it. Keep calling until you can see the results and print them on your computer.

Do not book new flights until you have written evidence (such as a print screen) of the old flights' being cancelled by them, not you.

Save all of the paperwork

Occasionally when you book a flight, whether through a local travel agent, an on line agent such as Travelocity, or directly with the airline, the written confirmation does not show that the flights are really confirmed. There should be the actual word "confirmed" or the word "OK" next to each flight segment to indicate that it is indeed confrimed.

"Print Screen" is just one of several methods of getting a paper copy of something you see on line. On most systems, pressing the "print screen" button is just one of several steps needed before the paper comes out of your printer, you may find alternate methods easier.

Well, this is what ended up happening. Travelocity would not honor the reservation. I spoke with a supervisor and she told me to read their "Terms of Service." I did find out my Discover was not charged, but the funds "put on hold." After going back and forth for 2 useless hours, I hung up and called AirTran. That is the airline with whom the flights were with. They are wonderful! She was very understanding. Said they have these sort of problems often with Travelocity. So, the good news...we got the same flights for $50 less!! Thank you AirTran. Lesson learned for me, book through the airline itself from now on!;) Thanks Gail, Peggy and Seashore for the advice. I'm glad this ordeal is over with!

Wow, Robinette, that sounds pretty nerve-wracking. I'm so glad it worked out for you in the end. Three cheers for the people at Air Tran! :bounce:

I don't use Travelocity as much as I used to. So often they have these excellent fares that come up, and when I go to book one, I get the "sorry, price has changed" message. The same low but useless prices stay on their site for literally weeks without being corrected. For some reason, this has especially been the case when I input Flint as the departing city instead of Detroit. Go figure.

Anyway, congratulations on getting your tickets all lined up. Now, just enjoy the anticipation of your upcoming trip! :D

Consider yourself fortunate that you discovered the problem early. Last year, we didn't know there was anything wrong until we went to check-in at the airport!

From my ordeal, I learned that a number of reservations (though a minority) somehow get "dropped" when Travelocity's system talks with AirTran's system. Seems like Travelocity's gotten a little bit better about identifying the problem earlier in the process. Trying to recoup our money from Travelocity was an ordeal involving a lot of time and effort. As a result, I have not used Travelocity for booking an airfare since.

I'm sorry you had to go through what you did, but am glad that the final result was in your favor.
