OK, now on top of the stress of packing, etc. there is this new tropical storm Wilma projected to hit Texas or Florida early next week. We are leaving for Fl 10/27. Is anyone else beginning to get concerned, or am I crazy? :confused3

Don't get in over your head too early. I doubt if your entire trip will be ruined if it heads this way.
Although it is interesting that we've managed to hit W in one season.

You ceratinly can be concerned if you like, but I would not stress over something that is far from a given at this point. You have ten more days and in that time frame lots of things could happen with Wilma. The odds of it having a major impact on the WDW area are very slim given the history of the last 34 years.

It will probably be at least late this week before we can get a good idea on how strong it will be and where (and if) it will make landfall.

Good luck!

Bob

In ten days time, the storm will be gone. They don't stick around that long unless they form right off of the African coast or something stalls it out in the atlantic. But once it's in the gulf it's gonna go, and it's gonna hit something.

Those are some of the local south florida news stations. And of course you can watch NOAA.com

Thanks guys. You've made me feel a little better, but knowing myself as I do, I'll still stress about it!

I appreciate your posting the local sites to watch.

I heard the Gulf Coast area will start to feel effects of Wilma over this weekend (10/21-22). Then it's supposed to hang to the east (after a short northerly run) and head back to central FL and out to the Atlantic. It should be past you before you get there (but you never know).

There are different ideas of what will happen and all of them are guesses right now.

Im stressing as well and I know I shouldnt worry over things I cannot change like the weather. I leave early saturday morning on the 22nd.. Had plans to see Spectromagic that night,, I sure hope it doesnt rain so bad they cancel the parade???

well if it does hit central fl, there will be major impacts, such as power outages(for who knows how long), which means no gasoline,, no grocery stores, restaurants, etc, trees dowm possibly homes destroyed, so yea, it wont just be "a little rain" and go on with your daily activities.

I endured the 3 central FL storms last year so i know from wherefore i speak.

I leave on the 26th and I am a little concerned. Right now it is too early to tell what Wilma is going to do. My biggest concern is that it is only moving 4 miles and hour. I think we will know a lot more in the coming days.

I leave this Saturday and am a little worried too. Our flight arrives at MCO around 2:30 pm. I just want to get there and I'll feel better...

This is a great site for tracking the storm:

http://flhurricane.com/cyclone/stormspotlight.php?year=2005&storm=24

Here is what we know: The storm is continuing west but a northward turn is likely at some time because of a low pressure system is going to be pushing south and eastward. Lows rotate counter-clockwise, so if you make a counter-clockwise circle with your left hand and move your right hand towards it (which represents Wilma) you'll see that once the two meet, your right-hand (Wilma)will be pushed up and to your right, which on a map is north and east. The longer that the storm continues westward, the more that the timing of when the low and the (eventual) hurricane will affect it's path. Right now it is too soon to predict a cental Florida hit with any confidence.

The good news is that the water in the gulf is slightly cooler than it has been and shearing currents (winds that are very high and push apart a storm) should keep it from becoming a Cat 3 or 4 at landfall.

We are continuing on with our plans (and we have been hit dead on by Ivan and to a slightly lesser extent by Katrina and Dennis.), but are moving up our flight plans by one day to make sure we get there and won't get hit by possible airport shutdowns. My advice is to watch the storm's projected path.
Remember that rain often keeps the locals from filling up the parks so a little bad weather can be a good thing. Too much rough weather though, and cancellations of shows and rides may occur.

Good luck and hopefully, we'll see you there!

That isnt what I have been hearing.
By the time it enters the Gulf..assuming it does, it will be a Cat. 2. The Gulf has water temps of 85 degrees, which will strengthn the storm to a major hurricane(Cat 3 or higher).

Im supposed to be enjoying this time waiting to leave for florida, now Im upset.
gee thanks mother nature.

Nnot crazy - but I can tell you this:

After living in Florida - and going to the parks the day after a hurricane hit (we were even in the room at ASMu, during Jeannie!) I wouldnt never ever ever cancel my trip due to a hurricane.

While on property you are incredibly safe. They run movies over and over on 4 of their TV Channels (and this is for the ONE day the park MIGHT close)

And the day after that??? PURE BLISS! Everyone cancelled - everyone headed home, never showed up - the parks are delightfully dead, and yet the weather is blissfully perfect. We walked on Peter Pan, of all rides, twice - in a row.... no wait.

Dont cancel for a hurricane. I promise.

I would never cancel! I am, however, praying I don't get stuck at Logan without a flight!

As long as you can get a flight, and get your butt over to WDW - youre fine.

Oh NO!!! How long will it take for the storm to pass Mexico? Dh and I are going next Sat (28) to Cancun for our 15th anniversery. How do I check on where it is? Thanks!

Me too. Thanks everyone. We leave for WDW on the 28th. We northerners get a bit antsy when we hear the word "Hurricane". LoL
