Tropical Storm Wilma ~ To Affect Fla?

I surely hope everyone that is heading to WDW in the next week is not affected by this TS -

not another one.........

Well the craziest story I've hear, has been Kari parents deciding to go to disney for the weekend, and then they came home the day before Andrew hit, and were trying to put up shutters.

I saw the aftermath of what the storms last year did to disney, but you're inland, and definatly not in too much of harms way. They do allow you to cancel if a storm comes. But unless you're camping, don't sweat it. Like the other poster said, you'll be enjoying the park by yourself.

GalDisney: "so yea, it wont just be "a little rain" and go on with your daily activities."

Most jobs around here sure do have that attitude towards thier workers. Kari had to work the day after Katrina hit (which the eyewall passed over where we live) and had to work four days in the dark at work. They kept the registers on back up generators, and about day 3 they brought in a massive semi size genni to run the store, but it didn't keep the AC very cool. Of course she works for home depot, and they had to keep rollin out those generators.
Which is also surprising because HD gave an additional 7.5% discount on top of the tax break back at the beginning of the season.

You ceratinly can be concerned if you like, but I would not stress over something that is far from a given at this point. You have ten more days and in that time frame lots of things could happen with Wilma. The odds of it having a major impact on the WDW area are very slim given the history of the last 34 years.

It will probably be at least late this week before we can get a good idea on how strong it will be and where (and if) it will make landfall.

Good luck!

Bob
I looks like we might catch the storm while we are there unless it decides to go to Texas :confused3

Well, I've never been to Disney World and never been in a Hurricane....guess that's gonna be two things I can cross off the "I've never" list. :teeth:

:worried: I just saw my niece and nephew (2 1/2 & 5 1/2) they are SOOOO excited for our trip. It is the first time all of us together as a family will be there. 10 of us total. I hope this TS goes away. Im being borderline OCD crazy  :scared: Checking the weather ever 5 mins! I guess the best I can hope for is no flight delays in NJ (flying out of Atlantic City) once Im in Disney nothing will matter. :wizard:

Both are an awesome thing to experience. I just check accuweather.com and they predict the storm to hit the tip of South Floriday by Sunday, so the rest of the week should be ok so far.

Too soon to tell but the path looks like it may hit Sw Florida, of course nothing is certain yet. BUT if it does take a track towards Central Fl if it is bad enough dont just assume the storm passes and Disney opens, it is possible that the parks will remain closed.

I leave Thursday the 20th. After EIGHT straight days of rain here in Rhode Island....I am off to 6 days of rain in Disney. I may cry!!

This isn't a Texas storm....it's a Florida storm. As it stands right now, with the forecasted track we will feel some effects in central Florida....but we're so far out and the track can shift....more likely to stay to our south according to the Tropical weather boards I read. It bears watching, mostly for flight purposes. Having said that, as long as you can get here, I would still head down. Having gone through three of them here last year, you lose a day, with Charley it was less, with Frances it was a little more. Obviously, on the coast it's a different story, but here in Orlando we'll do just fine.

Yes but will they keep Orlando International open? If it does stay SOuth is that far enough away to keep the flights coming in. Of course we are set to land at 12 noon on Sunday. :confused3

Thank you to all who are keeping us posted. We are heading down Sat. with both sets of GP's DH, DS (turning 5 down there) and DS (4 mths.old).

I am very nervous about this. I feel bad for the GP's who have never been there, but I am more worried about the little ones (particularly the infant) if the power goes out.

Let's all say prayers.

All you can do is watch it. It may not affect us all that much in Central Florida. This thing hasn't even fully formed yet and so we don't know how large (in diameter) it's going to be. And we don't know where it will come in. We may just get a little wind and rain, a big storm, or something inbetween.

I would think that if we get tropical storm force winds that they'd close the airport for awhile. I read the Storm2K tropical weather boards....the tropical analysis board in particular where professional metorologists post their forecasts. One met that is very good posted his recent forecast and I don't like it....has it nearing SW Florida with 138 mph winds on Sunday. But he has it offshore then...but if it increases its forward speed it could come in sooner...of if it slows...later. Just keep an eye on it. Let's hope that it isn't that intense coming in....because that's a really strong storm. I was hoping that the water being in the mid 80s as opposed to the high 80s/low 90s would help to keep it down in intensity. Oh well, I thought we'd make it through without a big one in our area this year. Sure looks like the Florida peninsula is going to get it...hopefully "it" won't be too bad.

Well, The Weather Channel just said it depends on the strength of the trough. Strong Trough=Florida Storm. Weak Trough=Yucatan Pensiula storm. So, you all may want to wish for a really wimpy trough :)

I always thought it wasn't the size of the trough that mattered but the motion of the ocean? :teeth:
Sorry. I couldn't help it. I needed to laugh. It helps take the edge off the pit in my tummy.

I'm starting to get scared. Our plane leaves Monday morning, Oct 24 st 7:35 from Providence. I just dont know what to think..I'm already so stressed with everything goin on. :(

We leave in over a week so hopefully it won't affect us *fingers crossed* but I had to say I was LMBO over Samantha's trough size joke :rotfl:

Adding my voice to the "WIMPY TROUGH WIMPY TROUGH" Chant ;)
