Tropical Storm/Hurricane Coming?

Don't worry, its supposed to hit where I am, not Orlando.... but things can change. We don't need it-- still recovering from Ivan. We get all the mean ones: Ivan the Terrbile and Dennis the Menace :bitelip:

Yeh! Why is that??? :confused3

I have a feeling this is going to be a LONGGGGG hurricane season. :sad2: We spent the fourth of July holiday at Pensacola beach and they still haven't recovered from Ivan last year. Recovery is probably slow in southern Florida I would imagine from all they had to endure last year. :moped: Maybe I'll make my evacuation route to disney instead of Atlanta this year if it looks like the hurricane is heading toward Mobile, might as well make the best of it!!!

Isn't the beach still so sad? I can't even go out there. Its too depressing. I drove around out there a few weeks ago, but its so bad compared to what it was before the storm. I'm so sad about this hurricane season :guilty:

I don't know, but isn't that crazy? I am so sick of these things!!!!! We were supposed to get our generator (super plus one that kicks on when the power goes out) installed the day Dennis is scheduled to hit! Isn't that ironic? :p

I hope all goes well for you. Sure don't wish a hurricane on anyone. Are you going to stick it out at home, or are you going to try to get away from there? Can you call to get the generator installed before that? Hopefully someone else will cancel and you can get yours ahead of time!

My DH had his eye on one he was going to go pick up a few weeks ago when that tropical storm blew through. Well, of course, he's put it off, and now look at us. Looks like he'll be headed out for a quick road trip tomorrow.

We had our friends' last year because they stayed out of town the entire time until power came back up, so we went over to their house and just borrowed theirs.

We're going to be building a house next year, and you can bet we'll have one installed with the house.

Our flight leaves at 6:51 am Monday morning and we are to land at 11:00 so everyone just wish for the best and maybe the thing will die out before it gets to the states. We will fly out of Dallas and we are just hoping that we get to leave when scheduled!!!! Good Luck to all of you and God Bless!!!! :sunny:

We are gonna stay here because we have pets (and they are far too big to take anywhere) and we gotta keep an eye on the house. We lost 33 pine trees during Ivan so hopefully all the trees fell that are going to. :goodvibes
Thanks for your well wishes. I just hate being without power. I went down to Orlando last year a week after Ivan when we still didn't have power and wouldn't you know it we went through Frances down there. Thank goodness power wasn't lost there too! :cool1:

We ordered ours off the Internet and we got it last week. Now we have to have an electrician hook it up for like $900 plus we are getting a waterless hotwater heater that goes off gas so we can keep hot water too. If my dad had been mor eon the ball, we would have it all by now so I know what you mean! :umbrella:

I'm north of the two of you, up in Century...we've still got trees down from Ivan and waiting on Fema to come for that! We're talking about heading out...last one was too scary in my over-a-hundred-year-old house. They are starting to talk about opening shelters on Sunday. :sad2:

We left last time. It's going to be hard to get DH out of here again. I had to pull him away last year. Not sure what he was trying to prove. But luckily, we had no damage - so of course, he thought we were crazy to leave. I've got two small children - we'll be leaving without him if it comes to it. I know our house is built well, but everyone I know that stayed (including our neighbors) said they would never do it again - it was that scary. I've lived here my whole life and always said, "Anything above a 3, and I'm gone." Well, I still say that - except maybe now added, "High 3 or above and I'm gone." We stayed during Erin and Opal - no kids then but no problems. I was a kid when Frederic went through, but I remember going to my dad's concrete warehouse to sit it out and being scared to death! I just don't want my kids to go through that.

Biggest problem now is we now have a 10-week old puppy, in addition to a grumpy old 13-year-old cat. Taking the cat with us last time was easy - taking both won't be so easy. I know DH is going to use this as his excuse.

If it just won't progress into too high of a Category 3, I feel okay staying - but still not looking forward to it.

I know where you are! My dad grew up in Jay. You aren't too far at all. I hope you fare well. I think I would leave too. That is a pretty old house! Good luck! :umbrella:

I agree! Hurricanes are very scary! I hate the sounds of the wind. Its like dramatic and whistley! :rolleyes1 I am not looking forward to it at all, but like you said, Less than a three will be okay I guess. :confused3

Dennis is now an offical Hurricane. The outlook is that it is still going to stay west of the Florida Gulf coast. However...we all know how weather is. The next 24-48hrs will be telling. Here are some of the key offical words from NOAA:

AIR FORCE RESERVE AND NOAA HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT HAVE BEEN FLYING INTO DENNIS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING...AND REPORTS INDICATE SURFACE WINDS HAVE LIKELY INCREASED TO AT LEAST 75 KT AND THE PRESSURE HAS DECREASED TO AT LEAST 980 MB...A PRESSURE DROP OF 7 MB IN THE PAST 5 HOURS....

THERE ARE NO CHANGES TO PREVIOUS TRACK FORECAST OR REASONING. THE MODELS REMAIN IN STRONG AGREEMENT THAT THE SUBTROPICAL RIDGE CURRENTLY EXTENDING EAST-WEST ACROSS THE FLORIDA PENINSULA WILL REMAIN INTACT THROUGH 60-72 HOURS. THIS SHOULD KEEP DENNIS MOVING WEST-NORTHWESTWARD THROUGH 72 HOURS. AFTER THAT...HOWEVER... THE MODELS VARY SIGNIFICANTLY ON HOW THE MID-LATITUDE FLOW PATTERN EVOLVES ACROSS THE CENTRAL AND WESTERN U.S....WHICH ULTIMATELY HAS AN IMPACT ON THE STEERING FLOW OVER THE GULF OF MEXICO.

Pixie Dust by the truck loads. Go out and have a good time!

I'm going on July 28th. I was watching the news last night and after they showed Dennis and Cindy they showed something off the coast of Arrica. You don't think that'll be here and ruin my trip!!! AHHHHH!!! I can't take the weather anymore!!

Who knows? They are expecting a very active hurricane season. I'll be happy when Nov is here.

I totally understand you! :sad2: I'm leaving July 25th and I've planning my first Trip to Orlando for month now...I'm sending all my prayers....to drive Dennis and all possible Trip poppers away! ;)

Although I understand that people pour lots of money and time planning into these trips, I would much rather a hurricane ruin my trip than ruin where I live. Ya'll are lucky when you don't live here- you can just leave and go to your house.

I hope these storms don't ruin any trips OR any homes. :wizard:

Very well said, and I understand, my parents live in Florida, it wasnt good last year for them, they missed most of it.... :grouphug:

Amen to that!

We really need a strong cold front to come through and cool those waters. The warm waters just fuel these storms.
