Tropical Storm/Hurricane Coming?

It's okay kbkids - we'll just go with the flow. I guess I have that pre-vacation anxiety . . . spending too much on the trip, BIL (who is going with us) hurt his back last week and is awaiting the MRI results, same BIL then calls me last night and tells me the airlines can't find his flight info, and of course - now Dennis. But we'll be in Disney next week and all of the anxieties will disappear!!!!

Too early to tell. Forecasts are only good for about 3 days out.

Big huge ditto to this! Having lived in Florida my entire life, the only thing I can tell you for certain is that hurricane's are *very* unpredictable. Heck, last year I sat in my house preparing for Charley to come up the mouth of Tampa Bay (less than 5 miles from my house) only to have it turn practically due east at the absolute last second. The earliest we could even think about having accurate forecasts for the US is Friday.

Also, just read this on accuweather this morning:

So far this season and much of last season track errors placed developing storms and hurricanes too far to the left. So, there is concern that current model forecasts could be misleading.

I have to say I am the biggest fearful flyer (I think) on this board. I have my "Fly without Fear" meditation CD, a script from the doc, books on how to breathe on the plane, you name it. I flew into Orlando Airport right before the airport closed for Hurricane Floyd and I don't remember anything crazy. I wasn't as afraid then as I was in 2003 when my plane hit alot of turbulance on a regular old clear summer day. The pilots won't fly into severe thunderstorms anyhow so you'll be okay.

As for Disney in hurricanes, yeah it throws off your planning a bit, but I'd rather be in Disney in the rain than anywhere else.

I'll be there in 3 weeks and praying for sunshine!!! See you there!!

I agree with Meg. Also, don't look at the thin line in the center, look at the "Cone of Error" That means the actual track can go anywhere within that cone.

Ted

Accuweather...the legion of doom and gloom. The NHC is already shifting the projected track further east than the models are indicating since last year this was a problem.

Oh and it was CHARLEY, not Charlie. Sorry, just a pet peeve. :teeth:

MMmmmm... I am a fearful flier too... but it'll all be ok. Right? Pre trip anxiety here too, too much money? not enough time? packing... etc. Rain doesn't phase me, just think the lines will be thinnner! :goodvibes

We're driving down the east coast Thursday and Friday (probably will get rain from TS Cindy on the way). We'll be at WDW from the 9th thru the 17th, and we're also concerned about a Hurricane (We live in the Mountains, and aren't used to that type of weather)! Our biggest concern is that they project the storm to be as far north as Orlando by Monday. On Monday, we have PS at Cinderella's castle for breakfast. We'll have one very disappointed 5 yr old princess if this storm "rains" on her visit to Cindy's breakfast!

Fingers crossed and hoping Dennis chooses to visit somewhere other than Florida!

WVParkfan,
Be careful with the flooding! Tropical Storms bring too much water and the soil is saturated...:magnify:watch ou the Flood Warnings....Hoping that your little princess princess: doesn't miss anything and that you can have a Wonderful time!!! :goodvibes

Just read this... I know it's still a little to early to tell but hopefully it wont hit FL
Dennis Nears Hurricane Strength

UPDATED: 2:14 pm EDT July 6, 2005

MIAMI -- The outer rainbands of Tropical Storm Dennis approach Hispaniola, and it's close to becoming the season's first hurricane.

Forecasters said it's the earliest date on record for four named storms to have formed in the Atlantic basin, WESH 2 News reported.

Residents in the Florida Panhandle are keeping a watchful eye on Dennis, which is brewing in the Caribbean and may arrive in the Gulf of Mexico by the weekend.

A hurricane warning was issued Wednesday for Jamaica, and the government of Haiti has issued a hurricane warning for the southwestern peninsula of Haiti from the Dominican Republic border. A hurricane watch remains in effect for the Cayman Islands and for eastern and central Cuba.

At 2 p.m., the system was about 350 miles east-southeast of Kingston, Jamaica, and moving west-northwest at 15 mph and the general motion is expected to continue for the next 24 hours. The center of the storm was located near latitude 15.7 north, longitude 72.0 west.

On this track, Dennis is expected to be near Jamaica early Thursday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 70 mph, with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 24 hours, and Dennis could become a hurricane later Wednesday. An Air Force Reserve hurricane hunter aircraft is enroute to investigate Dennis during the afternoon.

Tropical-storm force winds extend outward up to 85 miles from the center.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for the southern coast of the Dominican Republic from Barahona westward to the Haiti-Dominican Republic border.

The latest projected path shifts Dennis more to the center of the Gulf of Mexico, farther away from Florida than it was on Tuesday.

Again, it's still to early to tell. Wherever Dennis does go, it WILL affect the weather in WDW. It's a huge storm. At the very least it is going to be a very RAINY weekend, at worst the storm hurricane could pass through. We will know better tomorrow into Friday. Right now it is still a major guessing game, especially with Cindy interacting with the Bermuda High, it could cause the high to move more east more quickly, which would draw Dennis closer to the Florida west coast.

The best thing to do right now is to just monitor the situation. :)

Breaking out the poncho for the weekend. My fear factor radar hasn't tipped off yet--so I wish you all as dry a vacation as possible :).

We're keeping an eye on Dennis as well. We are scheduled to accompany DH on a business/mini-vacation to the Mobile Bay/Gulf SHores, Al area this coming Tuesday-Sat (July 12-16). :confused3 We'll keep our fingers crossed that Dennis weakens for everyone's sakes!!

Hey - you're heading towards me. :) I'd think you'd be okay - definitely keep an eye on it though. But they're estimating landfall right now at Monday morning. So, assuming it's not a massive hurricane with lots of damage, your trip shouldn't be affected.

That being said, we have good friends in the military here. They are already planning to fly out the planes on Friday, so they're looking for it to come this way.

I have a feeling this is going to be a LONGGGGG hurricane season. :sad2: We spent the fourth of July holiday at Pensacola beach and they still haven't recovered from Ivan last year. Recovery is probably slow in southern Florida I would imagine from all they had to endure last year. :moped: Maybe I'll make my evacuation route to disney instead of Atlanta this year if it looks like the hurricane is heading toward Mobile, might as well make the best of it!!!

Dennis has just been upgraded to a Hurricane. I'm glad that my vacation starts Fri, we're off to Ohio and Pa for 2 weeks. News says it is very unlikely for it to take a hard right to central Fl. However, central Fl may experience tropical storm force winds.

lovethattink,

Where did you get the info about the upgrading? :confused3 I'm connected to noaa and haven't said anything yet....

I got it from listening to ABC news. It was NOAA's 5 o'clock update

Don't worry, its supposed to hit where I am, not Orlando.... but things can change. We don't need it-- still recovering from Ivan. We get all the mean ones: Ivan the Terrbile and Dennis the Menace :bitelip:
