Tropical Storm/Hurricane Coming?

Heads up to those (including me) that will be in WDW this weekend and early next week. Previous tropical depression 4 is now Tropical Storm Dennis and it's inching northwest. They expect Dennis to become a full fledged hurricane as it churns NW.

Subject to change at any moment of course as the fickle weather finger of fate decides. But it looks like it'll be in the Cuba area early Friday am. It's 'supposed' to travel up on the gulf side of Florida. Keep an eye on those forecasts for any and all major planned outdoor activities this weekend and a few days after.

I'd post the URL but I can't yet (still in DIS kindergarten). Go to Google and search on "tropical storm forecast" to find the NOAA site with graphics and forecasts.

To those going, hope you don't have a lot of rain. My advice is wear scandals/beach shoes and ponchos and have FUN!!

We were there last week and it rain a few days. Last Monday we were at dinner by the Boardwalk and it poured. It was still raining when we left so we took off our shoes and socks and put them in a bag and walked through Epcot to get our bus. It was a great time and for the long walk we had the kids did not complain once.

To make you feel better (really)

Last year we were at WDW during a hurricane. It was the BEST time we ever had there.

I also think WDW in the rain is liberating

You don't have to care how you look, if your clothes get dirty, if your hair is a mess...everyone is in the same boat. You can go on Splash Mountin and don't care if you get wet It's also not as hot.

So embrace the weather, WDW always surpirses me. Sometimes the Best of Disney is when the weather is the worst.

We're leaving today for WDW - going to a Children With Diabetes conference that runs through Sat. morning. We're planning to tour the parks Sat and Sun and fly back Monday so we're keeping an eye on the storm.

Not much we can do! I'm not worried as it seems even when Orlando is very much affected that WDW takes care of its guests. (I am concerned for the FL residents though ). It is helpful to know - thanks for the post. My 3 yr old is diabetic and I'm going to bring extra on top of my extra in case we're down there longer than expected.

wow....this is really weird weather for this early in the summer...
we go every time at this year and only once before did we encounter a hurricane at this time....

and here we go again...we get there on sunday....i hope we manage to make the last leg of our flights into orlando on sunday morning....

Being from California this is something we have never experienced!!

We are leaving tomorrow, it will be interesting to see what Dennis brings.

What happens when there is a hurricane at WDW? Does it ever actually reach Orlando? What about tornados? Just curious!

I'm prepared for it to be wet, wet WET!!!!

As we saw last year, hurricanes do reach Central Florida. WDW was pretty lucky with limited damage to buildings. Tornados do happen during hurricanes.

Go and have fun. Just be smart and pay attention to warnings.

We were there last year during Hurricane Charley. I must admit that Disney did do a nice job of taking care of the guests that we onsite. The parks all closed early the day of the hurricane, and then Animal Kindgom was closed for the rest of our trip, but it was a unique experience. We rode the storm out on the top floor of the 70's building at POP. Being from Missouri, this was something we never experienced before..

If another hits, you can still enjoy your vacation. It will be fine. But let's hope for nothing major!

Current outlook shows Dennis directly over Cuba at 2pm Friday then out in the middle of the Gluf of Mexico, well West of Florida by 2pm Sunday. Maximum sustained winds 92 mph. We should know by Friday whether the WDW area will be impacted at all. Right now odds are it will not. Keep that Pixie Dust coming.....

Maximum sustained winds are near 70MPH with no significant changes in strength forecasted prior to landfall. The storm will take a gradual turn toward the north-northeast over the next 24 hours with tropical storm force winds extending up to 105 miles outward from the center.

Tropical Storm Dennis is currently centered between Venezula and Puerto Rico, moving towards the west-northwest at 20MPH. Maximum sustained winds are near 40MPH with significant strengthening forecasted over the next 48 hours. This storm will likey reach Hurricane strength by late tomorrow as it passes between Jamaica and Hati.

I tried to post the maps with the projected tracks. . but it wouldn't work. I don't think you all have much to worry about . . .but I would come up with some indoor fun activities. . .just to be safe!!

Actually it is still to far out to really know about Dennis. If the Bermuda high weakens quicker than what is being forecast right now, Dennis will take a very different track. More will be known Thursday as the projection are really only good 1-3 days away.

Of course this would be the weekend we have a WDW weekend planned.

Right now all the models have it tracking west of Florida....but it's so early in the game. We'll know a lot more by Thursday or Friday. Still though, there would have to be drastic changes in the ridge to hook Dennis into the west coast and across the peninsula. Then again, Charley was supposed to be some serious wind and rain...and two hours before landfall he changed his mind. That was most certainly not a fun day.

I'll be in Orlando for July 25- 30. Being from Puerto Rico, Hurracaines never scare me a lot, we are pretty used to them .
Here we had almost all the houses made from cement or reforced Wood, hurracaine prepared. But I'm a little concered (and scare) about that kind of phenomenom ruining my vacations ., My first time in Orlando ..

I think all July Travelers are thinking Happy Thoughts and Sending pixie dust for good weather
