Tropical Storm Fay - TUESDAY 11 AM UPDATE in post #1

Hi Jim, maybe you can help. I remember there was a website (I think it was a local South Florida news channel's site) that I watched fairly recently that showed possible tornadic circulation on it's realtime radar. I found it last time we had a bad storm at night that was supposed to spawn tornadoes. I can't find it, and when I lose satellite I kind of panic even more, so being able to "see" any possible tornadoes in the middle of the night would make me feel a little better.

Any suggestions?

:thanks:

I don't know. If you are talking about Dade/Broward, it would be CBS4, NBC6, or WPLG (Ch 10) the ABC affiliate. Or possibly Ch 23 or 51, our Spanish local stations.

You could get an inexpensive weather radio and use that. That's what we use for some of our more remote housing units at Everglades NP. They work quite well, and you don't have to stay awake all night watching a computer screen for something that's not going to happen.

Thanks for replying. I had checked our news websites but I couldn't find it.

Just a few minutes ago channel 7 was showing their radar with a pinpointed area of rotation where a tornado was suspected on 95 & Hallandale Beach Blvd. I would love to find a radar online like that.

I looked at their website (sorry Ch 7, I forgot you...must be an old Rick Sanchez hangover!). They have a lot of small local radars, but I didn't see anything like you described. Their site is www.wsvn.com/weather

This just came into our office from Disney destinations:

:rotfl2: If Rick Sanchez was still here he would have caused such drama today over nothing. We get regular thunderstorms that are worse then this. I think the kids could have all started school today.

If the system doesn't stall unexpectedly, Thursday should be fine. Especially if you are flying into WPB or FLL. They'd just fly around any weather and you'd be on the back side of the storm.

Thanks for the info...I'll be flying into West Palm and heading to Vero on Friday and hope all is well :goodvibes

Okay, I'm getting a little worried. I leave tomorrow morning for my week at WDW. The Orlando airport is stating business as usual, but now it looks like Fay is going to go right over WDW. Any of you who are "old hats" at this sort of thing (Florida weather), please let me know if there should be a problem flying in tomorrow morning with Fay being right over Orlando tomorrow. :scared:

I wasn't as worried yesterday, but today it seems to be going directly over Orlando. Those of you in Florida might know a little more about this. Thank you! :)

I'm waiting for the 11 AM advisories to post an update, but those of you flying in tomorrow (Wednesday) or later will be fine. The airlines will just fly around the weather and land behind the storm.

Fay is ashore between Naples and the western shore of Lake Okeechobee, moving NE at about 9 mph. It will pass out into the Atlantic around Cape Canaveral this evening. So WDW will be in the weaker left-front quadrant of the storm, and Vero will be in the stronger right-front quadrant. But max winds are only about 50 mph right now, and there is no water under the storm so it should gradually weaken a little. It will be a rain event more than anything else, like it was here in Miami. Should be negligible damage.

Fay is projected to slow down, possibly intensify slightly over the Atlantic, and then turn NW and come ashore again in NE Florida or SE Georgia. Therefore anyone driving down Thursday-Friday may have some weather to contend with.

Fay is not projected to ever reach hurricane strength, but if it stalls in the Atlantic, I guess it could become a minimal Category 1 hurricane. That is NOT expected to happen.

Jim, thank you so much. I'll await your next update, but I am breathing a little easier now. :thumbsup

still holding out hope that we get out of manchester tonight, so far no cancellations, and it looks like every flight got out for West Palm beach with minimal delays

Jim, how did Marco Island survive? It sounds like they were on the clean side of the storm rather than the dirty side. I love Marco Island.

From the early reports, it sounds like just some minor flooding and power outages. Nothing serious.

Jim, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your efforts in keeping eveyone here updated with TS Fay and helping others with their questions. :thumbsup2

bumping ... any news??? Just curious since SWA out of San Antonio cancelled the afternoon flights to Orlando today. Hoping that tomorrow morning flights are still on. They just said to call in the morning and check ... which I will be doing very early. :sad2:

Not really much to report. Fay is essentially done. She will wander up the coast a bit and then turn inland south of Jacksonville and slowly dissipate.

Fay will, however, make driving down either I-95 or I-75 a gruesome task. Anyone thinking of driving through Northeast Florida Thursday or Friday should probably plan on delaying a day or so until the mess clears.

Now we can all go worry about Invest 94...
