Tron roller coaster @MK?

OK. The merging of the two threads has, as usual, made things more confusing, as I no longer can find the post I wanted to respond to. Anyway, here are a couple of thoughts I have.

1) Say what you will about the Speedway, but I see more genuine smiles from 4-7 year old kids that have just driven the Speedway than I see on any other attraction at WDW. There is not a child in that age group that does not like to drive a car. 'Classic' rides like Peter Pan and Pirates of the Caribbean don't hold a candle to the Speedway when it comes to making kids happy.

I agree. Sometimes we try to be too logical. Speedway takes up a lot of space, and in the eyes of an adult doesn't really do much for us. It's loud. It smells. We would put something SO MUCH BETTER THERE.

But as much as I love getting new thrilling E-tickets, that's not what WDW is about. At least it's not the only thing it's about. I like when thrilling innovative things get added, because it shows people that it's not just for kids. But I don't want to ever lose sight of the fact that it largely is made for kids and families to enjoy together. Especially the Magic Kingdom. I don't want Disney to become Universal because we are trying too hard to impress all of the kids who grew up loving WDW and want thrilling adult reasons to come back. Keep the kids happy.

That doesn't necessarily mean the speedway has to stay. But I think it has a lot more value that we normally are willing to admit. I hope Toy Story Land and 7DMT are as beloved by kids as the attractions we grew up riding. I can't think of much else that has been done for that age group in the last 10 years.

2) I thought I remembered, and the overhead shots confirm it, but the PeopleMover travels through a portion of the Speedway's air space. Putting something in the Speedway space that may necessitate the shut down of the PeopleMover, even if it is just temporary, would NOT be cool in my book. Not cool at all.
Peoplemover is safe if this happens.

I feel like most people aren't saying the speedway in concept is terrible - more about the current form with the gas smells and loud noise.

I think a lot of us would love it if this goes behind the speedway/space mountain AND the speedway gets an update to match in theme and to electric cars or something like that

AGREE on merging, it turns threads into who's on first and with a few more merges won't be worth reading anymore.

1) It's the only cars my DS will ever drive but ya know ... he'll get over it if it leaves. Snow White was his favorite ride, they shut it down and he was so sad ... but now he loves 7DMT ... and most kids eventually grow out of it. Disney moving forward will build for masses and those who bring the cash.

2) Yes it is well over the track. They can build this thing E/W and not impact PeopleMover or they could build it N/S behind Speedway and leave the Speedway in place (but please replace those car with something non-toxic).

I wonder what they were working on when that video was shot? Was it the subs during the nemo retrofit?

Saw all that, but I've never been so have zero gps for that.

Peoplemover is safe if this happens.

I think his point is that, at some point, PeopleMover may have to close for a short period during the construction for the Speedway replacement, since the ride paths overlap. I imagine they'd do as much as they could without having to close PeopleMover, but that it might go down for a month or two while the overlapping areas are constructed (at the very least so that Disney can put up temp walls or a tunnel to obstruct views of construction of the new ride from the PeopleMover).

Maybe. I read it as the ride would be closed for good if the new ride (Tron) were placed over the speedway footprint so I was just stating it would be possible to build the attraction without losing the PeopleMover, and even possible to build it without losing the Speedway.

If the Speedway were to stay and be changed, I would only anticipate an upgrade to possibly futuristic electric cars and maybe some scenery/theme - which should not impact PeopleMover. It would make sense to keep the infrastructure - otherwise you may as well get rid of it.

In the part that is temporary, sure it could close a short time and maybe a good time for them to do any big maintenance on it. But that happens all the time with rides and part of the operations.

We can't have multiple threads about the same thing. We merge to have everything in one place. If people would look and see if a thread has already been created before starting a new one we wouldn't have this problem. It creates confusion either way really.

Yeah - I'm afraid that if they put the Tron coaster by SM, SM's demise is just a matter of time. I would MUCH rather it be re-imagined. That being said, its rather painful to ride. The left side doesn't seem as bad as the right side, but it's pretty jerky and rough.
One rumor just out has SM going for the much needed refurb it needs once TRON is done. Not substantiated...but it makes sense as TRON will pull alot of traffic

Major refurb (NEW track), new theme makes much more sense. I mean it's the first thing you see coming in, it's iconic. It will still have a different draw. There will be plenty of younger kids who ride SM who will not ride Tron due to "lack of a car". There will be plenty in the height requirement for SM that won't be for Tron. What would you put there? The plaza alone is already big and barren. I think if Tron goes in, it will just go down for major rehab so it's good for another 40 years. ;)

I so hope that they eventually upgrade WDW Space Mountain to the double seat configuration they have in CA & Tokyo.

As a child I thought it was a snooze fest - and I'm not young at all. The local park had a much better "Tin Lizzies" ride TBH and we went to WDW every year as a kid. I've been with kids since, none of them were enthralled...I'm not negating your experience, just have no evidence of it personally.

I disagree with the premise that duplicate threads cause more confusion. Often times, the first thread may have already run it's course and is now on Page 3 or 4. I know that's still recent enough for the moderators to remember, because of the amount of time you are required to spend on the board. But, for most of the those who casually read the boards, and only get on 1-2 times a week. we're not necessarily going to know that someone opened a similar thread a week ago. If something gets repeated, that's okay. It's new to the majority of posters reading that thread on that day.

I will concede that duplication should be easier to prevent on the Rumors board, because the first page doesn't turn over as frequently.

Not sure if it's been mentioned here, but a lot of speculation over on WDWMagic that whatever the Tron/Speedway plan is will lead to a significant change to the WDWRR in Tomorrowland, like was done in 1980 and 1992 over in Frontierland.

Could they be pushing the RR out further towards World Drive ? That gives them a way to keep Tron within the track boundaries and potentially better configuration in our sample images.

Yeah the track will likely have to move some.

I'm not going to continue on this but if anyone has comments or questions about how things are moderated don't hesitate to send a PM. We just can't have 30 threads of the same thing.

You need not apologize for what you're doing...

It's fine. And it seems the "my time can't be used to read stuff on a discussion board that I VOLUNTARILY surfed to...it's too valuable" has reared its head again.

I always reject that...rambling and discussion is what this is for as well as a tool...because it's fun and helps the brain.

If you want straight facts...encyclopedia Brittanica is out there somewhere.

I believe now even available on CD-ROM
