Tron roller coaster @MK?

Personally I'm for it. Of course I understand the opposition against it. They have done two coasters in the same land before in paradise pier and fantasyland but nothing like 2 E-tickets. If they do it I hope it's where the theater was

Not that I disagree...I don't...but we both know that WDW isn't getting a rollercoaster under this management...and it wouldnt be in magic kingdom if they did.

I really want to debate you, because I love disney discussions, but I just can't bring myself to ....

Rip up the speedway and put something there. Disney really needs to get TL out of the 1950's
Well in the 50s that's what we thought the future would look like. Now what will our future look like? We don't know. We thought we'd have flying cars by now.

Yes I know. And it hasn't changed. It is now 2017.

But other than virtual or augmented reality what is our future? Who knows what to put in tomorrowland to be futuristic.

Hopefully our future is Disney updating TL to make it look like a realistic future to present day minds.

I get that but my question is what does a realistic future look like today? And in 20 years is that future going to be outdated again?

I heard this rumor last Thu when we were at MK meeting up with DS's girl friend who is in the college program. She said that it's the latest rumor that the Tron ride from Shanghai is replacing the Tomorrowland Speedway.

While I don't really do the speedway anymore and love the idea of a new attraction I still like it for the nostalgia. I guess that is the difference between some Disney enthusiasts- it's one or the other.

Who knows. Is a speedway the future? 5 year olds driving race cars? I have no idea. I would say Tron is more of a futuristic vision than the speedway. My biggest complaint with TL is the look. Not necessarily the content. And the answer to your 2nd part is absolutely

If we had something nice like Autopia from Disneyland, I would be more disappointed to see it go. However, the Speedway at WDW-MK is pretty blah. It is a very basic simple path with no real theming or decorations around it. Would personally liek to see it get pulled out and replaced with something else that has a more futuristic/sci-fi look like the rest and some building struture to it to help fill in TL more and make it feel more imersive like other lands. Feel like aside from the walk into it from Main sTreet adn right around the base of TTA it feels very open and jsut looks onto other areas, where some sci fi structire where the Speedway is would fill it out more and feel more immersed within the land.

However, I am curious what they would put in Tron wise if not the lightcycle coaster. That's the most iconic thing from the movie, and seems odd choice to me to add something for a franchise they aren't doing anything with that isn't some icon like that.

Agreed. Also would he a curious choice to replace a mostly am attraction (speedway) that is mainly geared to younger visitors with a coaster. Doesnt seem likely to me.

My guess is the Coaster costs more than they want to put into a tron attraction.
Hardly anybody wants a "Tron" attraction. Just like most didn't want an Avatar attraction.

But most here see a video of the Shanghai Tron and say, "That Looks Awesome!!!!!"

I'll gladly line up an ride any great E ticket attraction! (Flight of Passage, Shanghai Tron..)

Someone with an imagination?

In the 50's they thought we'd have colonized space by now and have robots that do everything for us. Even Epcot on Spaceship Earth fantasizes about every household having robots or technology that does things for us.

Why not expand upon that idea? Why not deck TomorrowLand out like we're living on another planet? Why not make it a space port as Spaceship Earth alludes to.. Spaceport 75. Why not have new animatronic robots that appear to do things? A robot that you can ask questions like directions or show times or menus. I mean the whole thing is mostly about space, so why not kick it up a notch? It's not that we have to reinvent TomorrowLand completely, but update the ideas perhaps using the technology we've discovered with the ultimate goal to reach what we've always imagined?

I don't disagree I just think "future" is a hard concept to keep up with because we never truly know what our future will look like.

While your main point stands--that the future is pretty hard to predict, there are futurologists out there doing that very thing. That's not to say they will be accurate predictions. Even they don't know that. But some things are relatively sure. It's the timing that's difficult.

All that to say that they could keep the future-looking theme alive, but, and to your point, it's not the easiest one to keep up to date. Still, I hope they try.
