Hi everyone!!

I'm thinking of getting a tripod. I don't want a gorillapod or a 'table-top' one, but I do want something that is small enough to be reasonalbly portable.

I have a Sony Alpha-100 DSLR. I've been looking online for models, but since you guys are so great, I was hoping that maybe i could get a few recomendations...to narrow down the choices:thumbsup2

Thanks!
Paula

I've heard good things about the Slik tripods. This particular one is 16" long folded and weighs only 1.5lbs. Not bad for travel.

I've never used one however so I can't give an opinion. I'm in the opposite boat, looking for a comfortable tripod for me being 6'5".

The Slik 700 would be my suggestion I am 6'4 and the tripod with the legs fully extended but with the center column closed brings the camera to eye level for me.

Excellent! Now to find a local retailer...

I would consider a good monopod. I have one of the Trek monopods (magnetic mount so it's fast on/off with the camera, legs fold out for tripod-like stability when needed). Doesn't "fold up" really small (unless a 1-inch diameter stick about four feet long is "small" to you), but it's a great workhorse and gets places, and used places, where a tripod could not.
