Triple D's February Challenge - The Wait is Finally Over!!

Hi DDD's

My numbers for Feb 8-14 are:

hours: 3:35
miles: 15.6

Nothing exciting or unusual to report here this week. :confused3

Hey gang. I will be leaving this team and moving over to the Team Alliance.

Good luck to you all!!!!!!

Before I start responding to everyone, happy belated valentines day everyone! This week for me was slightly better than last week in terms of exercise. I got my butt kicked in spinning and it reminds me that I should be doing it more often! I'll try to get in as much time/miles as possible this week but it's going to be hard. I'm taking another vaca next week so this week is all preparation and stuff for Aruba. I need warm weather!!! I will actually be working out on vacation though. My best friend is coming with my family on this trip and she's a big exercise buff too.

My totals (combining all running/cycling/lifting/etc):
188 minutes
23 miles

How is everyone doing today? This is the quietest that this group has been since we started. I sure hope you aren't already getting burned out. As for me, I will be going to get my race packet tomorrow when I get off from work. I found out tonight that after the race, there will be a free BBQ plate for all of the runners. (Nice perk but I am not a typical Southerner. I have to be in the mood for BBQ to eat it. And furthermore, I don't eat a lot of pork anyway.) Plus, they are going to have a couple of bands there as well so this is going to be fun. I will keep you all updated on the goings on and I will post a race report.

Brian, hope you're feeling better! And can't wait to hear about the race! :) I tried coming on here earlier to say good luck but I was too late. haha

Hi Gang...I'll catch up more later. I'm off to WDW!!!

Have an awesome time ironz!!! Bring some Disney cheer back to the boards!

looking forward to a Triple D'S meet at 2010 Marathon weekend. I going to try and make Ressie today before DW changes her Mind.:lmao: :lmao:

Did you make the ressies yet? :)

I finished C25K week 2 and started week three today. It's quite a jump.

Congrats on making it through week 2!! A few of my friends at work have just started and they love it!

Hey gang. I will be leaving this team and moving over to the Team Alliance. Good luck to you all!!!!!!

Good luck to you too hockeychic! We'll miss you over here!

Greetings from a Goof! :goofy: I was just in the neighborhood and stopped by in hopes of reading a race report from Bryan. I was a spectator at the Mercedes Marathon, but I'm not sure if I saw him during the race or not. I posted my spectator story in the Super Goofs February thread. Swing by if you're curious about my experience helping the last runner, who was my Team in Training teammate!

The day was a perfect day. The temperature started off in the 40's and was warming up into the mid 50's. Now, I was a bit concerned about my performance as I have been feeling a bit under the weather. I developed a head cold and have been trying to get over it. Nevertheless, it was race day and no time for excuses.

We get called to go out for the start of the race. We are running thru downtown Birmingham past one of the local colleges, several historical areas and quite a few parks. It was a very scenic route but it does need a little work. (Roads are in need of some re-surfacing.)

The gun sounds and we are on the way. Starting out with a slight jog. Nothing to fast or strenous just a nice jog. This was the point I realized that the day was going to be a long one. By the time I was just a couple of 100 yards away from the start line, I was out of breath. I couldn't breathe out of my nose for anything but I couldn't stop. I had to get passed that start line crowd before I went into my walk mode. I then got into a mode of walking so I could keep about 13-14 mpm pace. I wasn't trying to set any land speed records. I just wanted to beat my time at Disney. But by the time I got to mile 1, I was already cramping in my calves. I was not about to stop though. I know how my body is and it usually takes me about 4 miles to get all lubricated up (so to speak). Sure enough, I reach mile 4 and I am feeling pretty good. My first hour is done and I am 4.5 miles into the race. If I can keep this up, I will finish around 3:00 and shatter my time previous by 7 minutes. I feel good so I keep going.

Now, because of my cold, I am stopping every chance to get fluids. There was cookies, chocolate, bananas, oranges, tootsie rolls and at one of the last stops beer throughout the race. (I don't drink so I didn't partake.) I remembered one thing that is very important. It is very hard to eat and drink while running if you can't breathe.

The middle of the race was very good. There was a few hills that put me behind on my pace so when I got to a good flat spot, it was time to jog. I got to mile 10 in 2:07 and knew I had my record in sight. (My one goal was to break the 3 hour mark.) At this point, trouble set in.

It was toward the end of the race, that my legs started cramping again pretty intensily. Between miles 10 and 11, I stopped and was trying to stretch my legs so I can get another "kick or two" out of them before the ending. Actually had one of the deputies stop to ask if I was ok. I wasn't but I wasn't going to tell him that. I had to finish. This is my 4th race overall and I haven't quit yet.

So I finished stretching and start jogging again. I catch up to a friend that I was with and my legs start cramping a bit worse. By this time, I had also developed a bit of a blister on my right foot so I was starting to doubt my chances but I wasn't going to stop. Not on my own anyway. I keep going and see that magical sign. Mile 13. The end is near. I gather up what last bit of energy that I have and start jogging again. I take the last turn and see the finish line. About 200 yards before though, I go over one of the chip readers and I hear a lady over the loudspeaker say "Bryan Weldon from Chelsea, AL". That was it. I had no pain at that point. I boosted my speed just a bit and finished the race. The official chip time was 3:00:02. I missed my goal by 3 seconds. I did still beat my time at Disney by more than 7:30 so I am happy about that.

Things learned during the race:
Make sure to use the Body Glide on your feet everytime!!
Drink more water than usual if sick.
Don't run a race if sick.
Enjoy every race and don't worry about the time. Just get the "bling".

Overall, I had a great time and will do it again next year!!

Have a great night!!
Bryan

Congratulations on a strong finish despite your illness and the cramping legs. Enjoy that Mercedes "hood ornament" -- what awesome bling! Sorry I missed seeing you run by at Pepper Place. It sounds like that was a point where you could have used a "You so totally rock, Bryan!" I hope you recover from your cold and your race soon.
Your neighbor,
Kim

Bryan, Congrats on finishing strong despite the physical problems you were having. :goodvibes :goodvibes

Bryan Great job with your run. Nothing worse than all that training and being sick. You should be proud of your perserverance and running sick still almost beat your PB. Way to go. Rich:banana:  :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hi, Triple D's. Another SuperGoof here popping over to say hello and check in to see how your wonderful leader Bryan did at his race.

Bryan WTG for sticking it out (without injuring yourself, of course) and for beating your Disney time. You will break your goal soon, that is for sure.

See ya!

Maura

Bryan, great job at your race! Doing it while sick is an accomplishment.

Augie...you silly! I had actually seen that post from my cellphone at WDW, and I was all....what? he's riding 30+ mph?! heehee!

I wish I was but downhills are over too quickly!

The spreadsheet link wants me to sign in, but doesn't allow access with any of my gmail accounts.

Ronda

Ronda....are you able to VIEW the spreadsheet? or not see it at all?

Hey Team! I tried to post a message a couple of times yesterday but for some reason it kept on knocking me out. (Frustrating) I want to thank you all for the compliments for my race. I am finally getting to the point where I can walk without looking like I need a cane. :confused3 :rotfl: It has been an experience. I will again say to all of those that can do the full marathon and not want to die, :worship: :worship: .

Betsy I can't thank you enough for all of your help with the spreadsheet. I tried to get into it as well and it was asking for me to sign in. It is not letting me see anything. But once we get the issue fixed, I will put it into the first page. Also, let me know what our totals are and I will put that in my sig as well. Thanks!

Kim I would have loved to have a shout out right about the time I went by you. I was feeling pretty rough but when I saw the TNT group, I thought of you being there so I summoned up enough energy to jog on thru. (I didn't want to look like a lazy bum in front of a fellow WISHer. )

Maura Thanks! You are pretty awesome yourself!!

Update Today was my last day of tapering after the race. I am going to get back in the gym tomorrow. I promise. I don't know how much my endurance will be for the rest of the week but my legs are feeling better. I do already have another race picked out. It is in April. It is at the Talladega race track. They are calling it the Talladega Half. I am calling it the Redneck Riveria Race!! (I guess I can make fun since location wise, I are one!)

Hope everyone is having a great week! I think I need to go to Disney and get some rest!:confused3
Bryan

What?! Some girl named Becky is helping with the spreadsheet? No wonder no one could see it! :lmao:

I think I fixed it...I had updated it, and think I lost the feature where people can see it. I didn't really want to try to collect emails, etc, to let people get in and edit (maybe I'm just really a control freak, too).
;)

See if it works. I'm not currently signed into Google, and I can get to it.
