Trip to Boston?

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me. I am from the UK and I am planning a trip to the USA for after I graduate university. I was thinking of visiting both New York City and Boston.

I was wondering if anyone had a hotel recommendation that is in a safe area in Boston. We have a budget of about $350 a night. we will also be traveling with a 6 y/o child.

Also I was wondering what would be an resonble price to pay for a flight from NY to Boston?

I just got back from Boston to watch Clemson University to lose to Boston College!

We stayed at the Boston Doubletree Guest Suites on 400 Soldiers Field Road. I booked it ahead a few months and paid $159. for the 3 of us. It wasn't in the downtown area but about 3 miles away on the river. I was between Boston and Cambridge. I hotel shuttle took us into Boston or Harvard Yard on the hour if we wanted to go into either area.

The hotel was excellent, very clean, a divided suite, and great service. I can highly recommend it and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

If you call them and tell them it's your first time to Boston and you would really like to stay there but you are calling to see if they have any discounted rates for your stay. 99% of the time they can give you a great rate, and you will LOVE this Hotel. It's in a very safe area of Boston, Beacon Hill..the epicenter and everything is within walking distance.

If you are looking at hotels online then look for hotels in the Back Bay or Copley area...close to everything plus plenty of subway stops in the area if you want to travel around the city.

we love Jury's in Boston.

we've stayed there a couple of times and have had a really wonderful experience. if you check out tripadvisor.com you'll see how many raves it gets. wonderful staff, lovely rooms, great location.

We were in Boston last October. We stayed at the Boston Park Plaza, it was beautiful. The rooms had beautiful down comforters. The lobby was stunning. The location was unbeatable. We paid about $240.00 per night and that was the weekend rate since we were there Friday into Saturday.
My husband loves the Elliott hotel, it is a little bit more money but he says it is worth it for the amenities.

Copley Square Boston is a SUPER location -- However, there are a number of hotels that include the name "Copley" in their address, and they are really in the South End, Boston, which is not so nice and not as safe, or they are rundown. Forget which one the Copley Sq. Hotel is -- but compare its price to the others in Copley Sqare, namely the Marriott Copley, the Westin, the Park Plaza, and see if the price seems "too reasonable".

You will not need or want a car if you stay in this area. On street parking will be virtually impossible to get and garage or valet parking will be $$. The green-line and red-line T subway will easily take you most anywhere you'd want to go and it's safe and easy and clean (well, not so clean at the airport or some blue-line stops).

MIT and Harvard are great places to check out, as are Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market, the Boston Common, Beacon Hill, Back Bay, and little Italy (yummy Italian food). The Museum of Fine Arts, the Children's Museum, the New England Aquarium, and the Science Museum are all super and all on the T-line.

I've stayed at the Sheraton Boston,it is attached to the Prudential Center, where there are stores and restaurants. There is also a T stop right there.

I give a vote for the Sheraton at the Prudential or the Westin Copley. If you join starwood preferred guest (spg.com) (which is free) - you can get great rates and at times comp upgrades at their hotels (sheratons and westins).

I have stayed at both of these hotels and they are lovely with many amenities and great location in a relatively safe area of the city. Remember, Boston is a big city and it is always smart to be aware and safe at all times while going about your time in the city.

3 days should give a "flavor" of our beautiful, historic city.

The Copley Square Hotel is located right in Copley Square, across from the Westin Hotel at Copley Place. You are in a great location. This hotel is an older hotel but is suppose to be very nice. You will have no problem getting around Boston from here.

If you want a newer hotel, I would suggest the Marriot Copley Place or the Westin Copley Place. I have stayed in the Westin and found it to be very nice.

Also someone mentioned the Park Plaza...another very nice hotel and closer to the Boston Commons...again another good location.

If you have budgeted up to $350. per night, you should have no problem getting a good hotel.

The Sheraton Boston looks good, definitely an option.

We are also looking to do some educational things (my sister is studying history and a part of my degree is in American studies and literature) so any tips on things to do will be useful.

If you want a newer hotel, I would suggest the Marriot Copley Place

This is a FABULOUS hotel. I have stayed here many times and will be staying there all next weekend with all my girl friends for a "girls" weekend.

You asked about transportation. A round trip ticket will probably run you $100-$150 dollars depending on the day, time, and airline. Remember you can fly out of JFK or LaGuardia to Boston also, so shop around for your dates.

Amtrak (train) is also an option. The price will probably be about the same, and with airport check in times, etc. the length of the trip may be close too. You can leave NY mid morning and get to Boston for a late lunch. The bonus here might be that you'll get to see some more of the U.S., not just fly over it. Have fun!
